Blood Covenant

Review: Blood covenants are unbreakable, indissoluble, and cannot be annulled. A covenant is a promise; it is an agreement between two individuals.

Deuteronomy 7:9

Know therefore that the Lord thy God he is God, the faithful God which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations ( or forever ).

Circumcision

Read Genesis 17:1-27

Verses 1-4 God reiterates His promise to Abraham about being a father of many nations.

In verses 5 and 15, God changed Abram’s name to Abraham and Sarai’s name to Sarah. This is part of the exchange of gifts that is one of the rituals of cutting covenant. A person cutting covenant brought his most prized possession, the best that he had.

Abrahams name means: Father of many nations and Sarah mean princess.

Another ritual of cutting covenant was to make an incision where blood flows.

Read Genesis 17:6-11, we find that God requires circumcision. Verse 11 says that it is “a sign of the covenant. Note; it’s not a place that will be seen and not a place that men would show off in battle. Why there? The promise was for a seed from Abraham’s loin with Sarah. The mark was in the organ the seed came through.

In verse 23-27 the bible says that Abraham circumcised his household that same day. He was quick to obey.

In Genesis 21, Isaac was indeed born, at the time that Isaac was weaned; Ishmael and his mother were sent away. Ishmael could not inherit with the son of promise.

Romans 2:28,29 NLT

For you are not a true Jew just because you were born of Jewish parents or because you have gone through the ceremony of circumcision, 29, No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by the Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people.

God used circumcision as a sign in His covenant with Abraham and Israel to separate Israel from the rest of the world. The blessing came through and passed to all of the circumcision. God needed a people, a group of people, who He had a covenant relationship with, to bring in the Redeemer of the human race.

The Seed

Galatians 3:16 Jesus THE SEED, had come.

Galatians 5:6 “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith which works by love.”

Circumcision is now spiritual. It is the cutting away of the flesh man, the old sin nature.

Why it matters that you are baptized in Jesus Name

Colossians 2:11-14

11, In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ.

When God cut covenant with us, Jesus circumcision covers us, His blood purchased us….Acts 20:28… we have redemption through his blood and the forgiveness of sins Ephesians 1:7For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

[ His faith works in us, Galatians 2:20] and God’s love is given to us Romans 5:5 Love is the greatest commandment Matthews 22:37-40

12, buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised Him from the dead.

Jesus name is applied to you through? ------in Jesus name.

Acts 2:38

Then Peter said repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Here are the benefits.

13, and you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

14, blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.

Hebrews 8:6

But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
