Marriage: George Lines and Ann Dickerson, February 16, 1819, Wheathampstead. George Lines signed his name and Ann signed her, name with an X. Witness to the marriage were John Hibton and Elizabeth Dickerson. The ceremony was performed by Joseph Douton. Entry NO 66 sighted by Gay O'Neill, Wheathampstead Parish Records in 2002.

The parish church, dedicated to St Helen, is an antique cruciform fabric, with a tower springing from the intersection of the transept and the nave; the living is a rectory, in the gift of the Bishop of Lincoln, and the present incumbency of theRev Geo, Thomas Prettyman [Pretyman], whose curate is the Rev Joseph Douton. The independents have a chapel, and there is a school conducted upon the national system. The parish, in 1831, contained 1,666 inhabitants

Born 6th Sept 1821, baptised 14 October 1821 Harpenden.

Marriage solemnized - Parish of Ickleford Hertfordshire July 22 1844 George Lines and Martha Parkins both of full age George a Blacksmith residence at the time of marriage Ickleford for both of them, father George Lines (Blacksmith) her father Joseph Parkins (Labourer) witnesses John Parkins and Mary Parkins – brother and sister of Martha.

Martha Parkin’s father was Joseph Parkin and her mother was Elizabeth Mead. Martha died, as did their only son George. Martha's elder sister Mary then lived with George had children and changed her name to Lines. George Lines and Mary Parkins married March Quarter 1849 -Free BDM’s ref: St Lukes page 2, Vo. 238.

Death of George Lines

South Mimms, Middlesex George Lines who died July 2nd 1878 age 56 "I waited patiently for the Lord and he inclined unto me and heard" Psalm X1 1st verse also Mary Lines wife of the above departed this life February 29th 1888 age 67 years "Our days are as the grass, or like the opening flower. If one sharp blast sweep o'er the field it withers in an hour” Martha died age 23 buried 22 Feb 1847 George died 19 months buried 22 February 1847, South Mimms both buried together in Barnet.

Last Will and Testament of me George Lines of South Mims in the County of Middlesex, a Blacksmith. I appoint John Parkins of North Carlton in the county of Linclon. Farm Bailiff and Stephen Swain of Ridge in the county of Hertford, Farmer to be executors..... I give and devise unto the said John Parkins (brother in law) and Stephen Swain (son in law) and their heirs all my real estate of what nature or kind so ever and wheresoever situated. Upon trust to pay the rents and profits hereof unto Mary Parkins the sister of my late wife Martha Lines at present residing with me during her life for her own sole and use and benefit free from the debts contracts control and engagements of any husband she may have and I declare that her receipt alone notwithstanding her coverture shall be a sufficient discharge for the same. And from and after her deceas upon further thrust to sell my said real estate in such manner as my said trustees in their absolute discretion may think fit and after payment of all costs and expenses of and incidental to such sale to pay and divide the proceeds of such sale among my three children by the said Mary Parkins namely Mary Ann the wife of the said Stephen Swain, Jane the wife of George Hollis of South Mims aforesaid and Eliza Jane the wife of George Hollis of South Mims aforesaid and Eliza in the manner hereinafter directed concerning my residuary personal estate I give and bequeath to the said Mary Parkins absolutely all my furniture goods chattels money and effects whatsoever which shall be in my dwelling house at the time of my decease...... Sarah is the mother of Mahala Lines born Wheathampstead 1845, out of wedlock (I have Mahala Lines birth certificate. On that it does not mention that she is Mahala Attwood. This name is what the child is called when she is with George Lines and Ann Lines (Dickerson) as their granddaughter in the 1851 Census for Luton. Sarah is not with them in Luton.

I do have this Sarah Lines which may be her.

Married Maria Nash 16 May 1853 Shenley, Hertfordshire

Occupation – Blacksmith as was his father George Lines a blacksmith

Johns wife - Maria Nash, her father James Nash. Witnesses to their marriage waasJames Anderson and Ann Smith. The marriage was solemnized by Henry J Newcome.

John emigrated to Australia 1858 – on board the Frenchman. John lived in South Australia.

He and his family became members of the Salvation Army, in its very early days in Australia (1880’s).

John died Dec 24 1910 aged 78 years – It states on his death certificate that is profession was Blacksmith. His residence, Union Street, Glenelg, South Australia. He was born inWheathampstead, England and had been in the country 52yrs.

John married again at the age of 54 years to Charlotte Eleanor Dickerson, her age 49 years. Her father John Dickerson witnesses the marriage: Geo Morcombe and John Dickerson March 30th 1886 in Auburn South Australia

7.  Eliza Harriet Lines:

Born August 11th 1835 baptised September 6th 1835 Wheathampstead

Parents living "Bottoms" Wheathampstead when Eliza was born.

Eliza is found in the 1841 Wheathampstead Census with parents at Batford Mills, age 5 years. Again in the 1851 census in Luton, Bedfordshire with her parents. Her occupations is years straw plaiter and she was 17 years of age.
