Study Abroad Program

The International Education Office will support the travel costs of a full-time faculty interested in accompanying an existing study abroad program. The expectation is that the funded faculty member will be able to lead the program in the event that the current faculty leader is unable to do so in the future. Applicants for this award will be expected to teach the same course associated with the selected study abroad program and follow the same itinerary with minor changes. Adjustments to either the curriculum or the logistics of the program may be considered. Describe your knowledge of the country/region where the program will take place, your experience withstudy abroad experience, your experience leading groups of students, and/or your familiarity with the current course content. Lack of experience will not disqualify you.
  1. Ability to lead and program changes:Please indicateyour ability to lead a study abroad program. Please consider the extra work required for recruitment, the time spent away from family, the responsibility of caring for a group of students 24/7 in another country, and the applicability of the courses you teach to the current format of the study abroad program. Please commenton each of these demands in a page or less.
If you intend to change the program in any way, please detail how you plan to do so in as much space as necessary.

  1. Attach a letter of support from the current program leader. This must state that he orshehas spoken to you about joining the program and agrees that this would be a clear benefit. He or she should comment on the benefits.
  1. Sign and attach the Commitment Statement.This statement confirms that you are prepared to join the program listed above, to lead it in future years if the current faculty member is unavailable, and to cover all expenses outside of the program fee. The IEO is prepared to cover the listed fee for the program. There are some expenses that you will incur, such as but not limited to passport, visa, immunization(s), tour guide tips, and country entry and exit fees.
