1.0General This specification guide covers the general requirements for design,
information/manufacturing and installation of low voltage measuring and
Introductionmonitoring relays for temperature monitoring in motors.
2.0Product features/The device shall be designed for controlling motors fitted with PTC
product functionsresistor sensors. The temperature sensors shall be incorporated in the starter windings to measure directly the motor heating.
The device shall be provided with a resettable storage as well as a front-sided storage reset and test button. Also the capability of a remote reset and automatic reset shall be given.
A short circuit monitoring of the sensor cable shall be configurable as well as a non-volatile storage in case of failure.
The thermistor motor protection relay shall accept a continuous supply voltage range 24-240 V AC/ DC.
If only one of the PTC resistors heats up excessively, the output relays de-energize. After cooling down the output relays energize as soon as the reset button is pushed or a remote or automatic reset is configured.
The device shall be provided with the following LED indications: - Fault tripping (preferably red LED)
- Supply voltage (preferably green LED)
The thermistor motor protection relay shall be ABB type CM-MSS, 1 channel or pre-approved equal.
3.0Conformance/The thermistor motor protection relay shall be designed,
standardsmanufactured and tested in accordance with the latest editions of applicable IEC standards.
Product standard:IEC 255-6, EN 60255-6
Electromagnetic compatibility:
ESD IEC 61000-4-2, EN 61000-4-2
HF radiation resistanceIEC 61000-4-3, EN 61000-4-3
BurstIEC 61000-4-4, EN 61000-4-4
SurgeIEC 1000-4-5, EN 61000-4-5
HF line emission IEC 1000-4-6, EN 61000-4-6
4.0 Approvals / MarksThe thermistor motor protection relayshall be approved and/ or certified by the following organizations:
-Underwriters Laboratories (cULus)
(version with 1 n/c and 1 n/o)
-GOST
-ATEX (version with 1 n/c and 1 n/o)
and shall have the following marks:
-CE
-C-Tick
5.0 Technical dataThe thermistor motor protection deviceshall be rated in accordance
with the following specifications:
Rated supply voltage 24-240 V AC/ DC
Rated frequency15-400 HzNumber of output contacts 1 n/c and 1 n/o or 2 c/o
Rated switching voltage (IEC 60947-1, IEC 664-1):
250 V AC
Rated switching current (IEC 60947-5-1):
AC12 (resistive) @ 230 V4 A
AC15 (inductive) @ 230 V3 A
DC12 (resistive) @ 24 V4 A
DC13 (inductive) @ 24 V2 A
Operating temperature range-20 °C … +60 °C
Storage temperature range-40 °C … +85 °C
6.0 MechanicalThe thermistor motor protection device should be realized in a
requirements 22.5 mm wide enclosure, possible to be mounted on DIN rail
according to EN 50022. The connection terminals should be able to accept stranded wires in the size of 2 x 2.5 mm2 (2 x 14 AWG) with wire end ferrule. The enclosure should have a protection degree of IP50 and the terminals should have a protection degree of IP20. The mounting position of the device in a cabinet should not be limited. The product should have a resistance to vibration of 6 g and an operational reliability of 4 g.
7.0 QualityThe vendor shall be certified in accordance to ISO 9001 (quality
requirementsmanagement system) and ISO 14001 (environmental certification).
A complete environmental product declaration (EPD) shall be
available upon request. The EPD shall describe the material
used for the thermistor motor protection relay, energy consumption, losses, etc.
The product shall be functionally tested prior to shipment to assure
proper operation per specification.
8.0 DocumentationThe device shall be shipped with an operation and instruction sheet
including functional diagrams, connection diagrams and set up
information.
9.0 StartupStartup procedures shall be intuitive and simple enough so as not to
require factory assistance or training.
10.0 AccessoriesAs accessory a sealable transparent cover and a panel mounting adaptor shall be available.
