The Owl Times
September
Week of 9/12 - 9/16
Themes: School Community, Constitution Day, Playground Safety
Letter: Tt
We have a lot of fun learning activities this first full week of school!
Reading:
We will begin our Schoolwide Reading program this week with Reader's Workshop.
Students will learn how to listen to books and share ideas, while learning skills and strategies to help them read. We will be practicing the routines, structure, and expectations for reading workshop. As we explore the excitement of reading in class, please help us by sending in a photo of your child reading a favorite book. We will share them together and I will hang them in our reading center. Please send your photo by 9/19.
I will be testing the children throughout the week to get a baseline of readiness skills. This includes letters, sounds, words, numbers, counting, shapes, and colors.
Fundations:
Our letter this week is lowercase t. Students will learn the correct formation when writing lowercase t as well as the sound it makes.
We will have show and tell with items that begin with the letter t.
Math:
We will begin GoMath this week. Students will be working on numbers 1-5. They will use counters to represent a number of objects with number names and written numerals.
Show & Tell:
We will begin show and tell this week. You child may bring an item from home that begins with the letter T.
Last Names A-L (You have Show and Tell on Tuesdays)
Last Names M-Z (You have Show and Tell on Wednesdays)
See the Show and Tell page for the letters each week.
*Your child can choose either letter for their show and tell item each week!
Star Student will begin next week. See the separate link for that information.
Make sure your child wears sneakers on Monday and Thursday for PE and fitness club.
We will continue to go over our classroom rules and review our behavior plan. Children will be introduced to our bucket filling reward plan after hearing the story, How Full is your Bucket? This will be discussed at Back to School Night.
Lunch:
Students will begin eating in the cafeteria this week.
They will be going to recess from 12:10-12:30 followed by lunch from 12:30-12:50.
Please make sure that your child's lunchbox has his/her name on the outside.
Please pack a lunch or send in money, check, or pay on-line to buy. You can view the monthly lunch menu on the Stafford Schools website. Each student is given a lunch card to buy lunch. These cards remain at school and act as a debit card for purchasing lunch. Parents can now view their child's account & make online payments either by credit card or direct deposit. Log on & register at www.payforit.net. The cafeteria will send an email home when the lunch card requires more money.
Healthy Snack:
We will be having a healthy snack each day. Please pack an additional snack in a separate labeled bag so your child knows exactly what to eat for lunch and for snack.
Handwriting: This week’s homework will be the letter t worksheet. Due Thursday.
Reading: Also, please read to your child each night until he or she begins bringing home books from school to read to you.
A math packet will come home daily. It contains the lesson completed in class and also a homework page and lesson review. Please use those extra pages for some fun practice, playing school, or review. They are not required to come back to school. Thank you!
Show & Tell: Bring in something that begins with the letter t.
