Association Information Technology Professional’s Officer’s Minutes

  1. The Association Information Technology Professional Officer’s met on Monday, November 3, at 5:15 p.m. in Founder’s Hall 126.
  1. Members Attending: Scott Cline(Co-Advisor), Vickie Holzknecht (Secretary), Heidi Krape (President), Ken Rhoades (Vice President), Chris Thomasson (Treasurer)

  1. Scott started off the meeting asking the Officer’s if we had any questions that he could answer.

a) Who is our Sponsoring Chapter? Atlanta and Charlotte

b) Are we allowed to put anything of the bulletin board in Founder’s Hall?

--Heidi will find out more information from Thom Brooks.

c) Has our governing body been established yet?

--The officers decided that the group as a whole should be the governing body, since we are small group, and need other opinions of AITP members in order to make this organization successful.

d) Our Constitution and Bylaws are being reviewed. Once completed, the AITP secretary will email everyone a copy, and we will have a vote to determine if everyone agrees and understands what is happening.

e) Who will be creating our AITP website?

--Had a suggestion that Scott Cline will propose this idea to a Web Page class (Dream Weaver, or HTML), to have them create a website for us, then as a whole we will vote on the best web page.

f) How are we going to make the AITP web page viewable?

--Put it on the ITN server

--Get our own domain

--Should it be a sub-domain of SCC (there are limitations)

g) As AITP student members, what are we interested in?

--Software

--Financial advantage for being a member

--Hardware

--Anything Computer related

--Life after school – finding a job

h) Who is going to be in charge of creating the advertisement page?

--Chris Thomasson (possibility)

--Robert Stevens (possibility)

  1. Discussed how often we should meet.

--Once a month with 4 total field trips, and 8 meetings overall.

  1. What could we do at group meetings instead of always conducting business?

--Have a guest speaker from IT businesses from the area come and give us an idea of what it’s like being an IT professional. Also have those who hire IT professionals talk to us about what they look for in employees.

--The list has been generated and sent out to the members for feedback.

  1. The officers’ main goal right now is to establish the AITP club and keep other members’ interest peaked.
  1. Plan of Action:

--We are hoping that we can have Metrostat come over with their technical supporters and discuss technical aspects as well as hiring perspectives.

--Have Ronnie Stillwell from WCU speak to us about Networking, he was once a teacher at SCC.

  1. We plan to have food at every meeting that is held.
  1. The AITP does have a bank account call ISSO (Information System Student Organization). We have free checking; tax id, and our current balance $893.55, which includes $400.00 received from SGA.

--Total membership funds for AITP is $325.00

  1. Ken (VP) asked Vickie (Sec) if she could generate a letter to Dell Computers asking if they would give discounts to the AITP Organization for software or hardware.
  1. Ken also wants to ask Jason at Computer Dynamics if he would consider giving the AITP members discounts on software and hardware, in exchange for advertisement space on the AITP website.
  1. In order to get our financial status a jump start we came up with the possibilities of:

--Donut sales/Coffee

--Bake sales

  1. The next AITP “Group” Meeting is scheduled for the first week of December, with a possible guest speaker (Ronnie Stillwell).
  1. To attend the National AITP Conference we decided to wait at least a year, so we can let our funds accumulate.
  1. January we are planning to have another guest speaker from a professional’s point of view.
  1. As the meeting comes to an end all members has a job assignment:

--Ken Rhoades (VP): To contact Ronnie Stillwell from WCU, and to further investigate about different software vendors.

--Heidi Krape (Pres): To ask Thom Brooks about the usage of the bulletin board of Founder’s Hall.

--Chris Thomasson (Tres): To ask Ingles about them making the donuts for our fundraiser.

--Scott Cline(Co-Adv.): Talk to Jim Campbell and Thom Brooks about the birth of the AITP web page.

--Vickie Holzknecht(Sec): type up minutes, send out emails, type up letters to companies.

  1. Meeting was adjourned at 6:40 pm.
