Farewell Mrs. D.
It is with mixed feelings that I share the departure of West Villages’ long-time friend, Mrs. ShirleeDolgoff. Mrs. D has been a school assistant in the district for many years. Today is her final day with us. Mrs. D is retiring to spend time with family, and embark on many new adventures. We all wish her well, but we will miss her. Mrs. D’s replacement will start next week. The final decision will be made over the weekend.
ACCESS testing:
ACCESS is the state assessment we use to measure language acquisition and proficiency for students who are still learning English as their second language.
Enrichments:
It saddens us to report that this will be the final session of after school enrichments. We here at WVES want to thank the PTO, Kristi Gargiulo and Amy Kowal, as well as all the volunteers and committee members for their incredible effort. This session has gone extremely well. This is a large undertaking and while we will miss this program, we all understand just how intensive the execution of this program has been. We will continue to evaluate other enrichment opportunities should they become feasible.
WVES Student Mural:
Earlier this year, our third grade students completed a school mural that celebrates our positive school culture while also working on Art curriculum standards. Sam Simon, artist in residence, came to work with the students to plan and paint amural around the same ideals as our “Drop in the Bucket” program. We spend time every year working on how our actions affect others. We do this using the book “How Full is Your Bucket”. Students receive a drop every time they are caught making a positive contribution to our school environment. You can see these drops hanging in our school lobby. This mural depicts these drops as you enter the school building.
The Barnstable School Committee approved the installation of this mural at West Villages at the January 15th School Committee Meeting. Be watching for this exciting new addition!
