Career Profile
I have held various IT Technical Account Management and Engineering positions from 1988 and have enjoyed the challenges that they have given me. From 2007 I have worked in various positions at K & N and manage the play.com resale of returned goods. I am studying for a BSc (Honours) Information Technology and Computing. July 2002 – July 2007 / HomemakerI became a single parent after being made redundant from Sybase and have essentially managed the home. After getting married I looked after my stepchildren while my wife was working, I have undertaken a variety of projects and charity work.

January 2001 – June 2002 / Sybase (UK) LtdSybase turned over almost $1bn worldwide, providing software directed to managing the IT and Business infrastructure. The Sybase product portfolio includes an Enterprise Portal, Enterprise Application Integration tools, Application Servers, 4GL Development and modelling tools, mobile lightweight and Enterprise databases with the supporting toolset. This software is supported by internal consultancy and close partnerships with a global network of partners.
Position / Technical Pre-sales Systems ConsultantThe post involved all technical aspects in the recruitment of new partners and clients, working with sales teams to identify commercial requirements and provide the right technology solutions to meet operational needs. To assist the ISV sales team in all technical issues and to offer assistance to other divisions as resources allow. To assist with Proof of Concepts, install and configure various products, deliver technical presentations and demonstrate the software. Unfortunately I was one of 30 that were made redundant. Since then an additional 40 have also left in 2002.
Achievements
Helped achieve over $ 475,000 worth of business (excluding royalties) in the first year across a variety of horizontal and vertical sectors such as Distribution, Health, Security, Payroll, Pensions, Finance, and Local Government. A continuos revenue stream being established due to the partners embedding Sybase technology in their applications.
The devising and presenting of seminars to key clients and partners. For existing customers this meant migrating and updating to the latest technology. With new and prospective customers it required the live demonstration of software, discussing case studies and Return on Investment models ( ROI )
Worked as part of the pre-sales and sales teams to research prospect needs and devise presentations identifying potential benefits to the clients and prospects. The teams maintained business even after September 11th when the industry suffered a dramatic downturn.
Meeting the press for trade publications, which generated additional interest in to the company whilst maintaining client confidence. There was reported to be additional interest in company capability and product application. I also demonstrated the software at Cbit at Hanover in Germany.
Developed a number of “live” demonstrations, this incorporated java, C++, PowerBuilder, Visual Basic and deploying components into the Enterprise Application Server.
Main technical focus has been on Enterprise Application Servers, Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), Process Server, Portal and Development tools
July 1999 to November 2000 / IT Factory (UK) LtdIT Factory was a Venture Capital backed company based at Copenhagen in Denmark. The key founders developed a unique architecture to structure all Lotus Notes applications, making development significantly easier to develop and extremely easy to maintain. IT Factory formed a UK office in September 1999 and started marketing and sales activities at the same time. IT Factory acquired a number of additional technologies to increase its product portfolio. The UK office has now ceased trading.
Position / Technical Pre-sales Consultant (EMEA)Responsible for demonstrating the company’s product range to customers and prospective clients Europe-wide, supporting the sales teams as appropriate. Installing the product, during initial proof of concept stages, demonstration training. I also was responsible for all IT support and management for the UK office, and gave assistance and to other country’s as required. Approximately 30% of the UK workforce was made redundant.
Achievements
I was selected as a Key Speaker to demonstrate as a case study of my project work at Allied Irish Bank ( AIB ) for an international Lotus Notes event. I had over 800 people attend my session, which was also recorded, and re-broadcast. The impact of my session was beyond all expectations and resulted in many new enquiries that lead to new business.
Formally recognised by Lotus for my achievements in demonstrating their products and obtaining new clients.
I designed and developed a totally self-contained demonstration system that included a full Lotus Notes Server with data populated in all applications, and included a fully customisable Web interface. This was successfully used as a sales and marketing tool, and enabled company non-technical sales personnel to demonstrate a great deal more of the product than they were previously able to.
April 1999 to June 1999 / Softech Consultancy LtdSoftech is a Lotus Notes and Microsoft consulting Premium Business Partner, and it had a very close relationship with the Research Group, which specialised in telemarketing and support services. It was a well-established and respected company of 10 people with an impressive client portfolio.
Position / Business IT Consultant (3 month contract)I was invited as a consultant to establish new business, maintain the sales pipeline and organise quotes.
Achievements
Opened a new order worth in excess of $300,000, and a number of smaller orders.
Formulated a formal and easy to use pricing system.
Designed and produced a series of Information Flyers for marketing.
November 1997 to March 1999 / ONEstone Information Technologies GmbHONEStone was a Venture Capital backed company whose original founders worked in a similar company called Pavone in Germany. They developed a unique Business Process Design tool that was based in Lotus Notes. The main feature of the product was that it was very user friendly and quick to implement changes. Clients included Deuche Bank, Chrysler, Honda, Smith & Nephew Group, Avesta Sheffield Steel, Zurich Re. Lotus Development Corporation Acquired ONEstone.
Position / Technical Account Manager (UKIreland)I was responsible for working with a wide variety of companies ranging from the major blue chips to smaller organisations providing all technical requirements across the UK, Ireland, South Africa and Australia. This included all product installations, proof of concepts, Training, and product development. The UK office amongst others was closed down and I was made redundant.

Prior to November 1997The following is a summary of my employment from 1988 to 1997. The majority of the positions was in IT Support however I also spent a number of years and positions in development.
Responsible for creating, setting up and building the entire Lotus infrastructure worldwide including satellite links. Delivered on time, and commended by international Managing Directors for the speed and effectiveness of the project.
Elected by Hughes Network Systems and Hughes Olivetti Telecom as pan-European representative on the management board to voice employee issues and to influence management.
Technical skills directed to various departmental applications, which included a vendor alert system for a purchasing department, Estimating Systems using AutoCAD and Bill of Materials from MRP system integrated into Oracle. Document management linked into A0 Scanners and a variety of unique developments directed to drawing and plotting.
Reduced recurring problems for one major account by 95%, for which I was commended. Additional benefits included a reduction in phone time and the freeing of trouble-shooting personnel to other tasks.

Interests
I am the secretary for the Daventry & District Chess Club and I enjoy playing chess, I have often represented the club in the Northampton and Leamington Leagues, winning various championship cups. I have also coached and offered advice to the chess clubs in local schools. I enjoy swimming, cycling, travelling, DIY, reading novels and technical magazines.
I have held a variety of PTA committee positions up to Chairman for local schools and assist with various aspects of fundraising which includes managing people at events and co-ordinating with local businesses. I am currenty studying at the Open University for a BSc (Honours) in Computing and Information Technology.
