Deception Pass Park Foundation Meeting Minutes

April 29, 2015 Regular Board Meeting

I. Call to order

II. Board President Liz Merriman called to order the meeting of the Deception Pass Park Foundation at 5:30 P.M. on Wednesday April 29, 2015 in the Deception Pass Park Administration Office.

III. Roll Call

The following members were present: Liz Merriman, Barbara Shaw, Steve Young, Brian Shelly, Matt Klope, and Interpretive Intern Carly Rhodes.

IV. Agenda, Minutes and Correspondence

Barb S. moved to accept agenda as presented, seconded by Brian S. There were no objections. Barb S. moved to accept the Minutes of February’s meeting, seconded by Steve Y. There were no objections.

V. Officers reports

· Updates of the 2015 Education Programs of the “Deception Pass Institute” were discussed.

o Kick off the season with a Photography class in June; followed by Old Growth Forests - July, Mammals and Birds – Sept, Oct. respectively.

· The process for selection of board members was sent out prior to meeting via email as was a Board Member job description developed by Brian S.

o Campaign to recruit includes advertise to the membership at large via email; advertise in local papers, on Facebook and the website (?)

o Brian and Barb interviewed Jill Johnson, County Commissioner, who expressed interest in the Foundation. Next step is entire board interview at next regular meeting.

o Matt K. will contact at least two people who might be interested.

Treasurer:

Financial Statement was presented and reviewed, with a balance of $39,514.07. Note that the approved budget of $7,500 for marketing, etc was not represented. Back up documentation was provided with statement. Brian S. moved to accept financial statement as presented. Matt K. seconded. There were no objections.

VI. Committee Reports

Interpretive Update

· Beach Naturalist Program completion, website and Facebook updates, and outreach opportunities were discussed.

o Past: Science Night – Mount Vernon High School – attended by Matt and Carly; Tumwater middle school – Rosario Marine Research Center (Walla Walla) – Matt and Carly: Fidalgo Shoreline Academy – Matt and Brian; and Sound Waters – Barb and Estelle.

o Future: Rosario Field Trips, Penn Cove Water Festival, Fix-It Days for Anacortes, Kukutali field trip, and the Rain Shadow Run in December.

VII. Unfinished Business

· Update on partnership with Deception Pass Tours.

o Agreement circulated with a request to forward any comments and/or concerns to Liz M. by Friday.

o Kiosk display in progress with Brian taking lead on construction and procuring merchandise for sale (thank you, Brian!!).

· Update on the amphitheater renovation by Brian S. provided some movement on the permitting process. Contract with Harmsen Associates for needed survey signed.
