Camilla Phillips with Job Corps

  • Job Corps is afreeeducation and training program that helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find and keep a good job. For eligible young people at least 16-24 years of age that qualify as low income, Job Corps provides the all-around skills needed to succeed in a career and in life.
  • Job Corp has 7 locations in Kentucky.
  • 18 % of those served need assistance with obtaining their GED or HS Diploma.
  • The average number of individuals enrolled in Kentucky is around 3000.
  • Job Corp offers over 30 types of education opportunities; some are Welding, Electrician and Pharmacy Technician.
  • Participants are assisted with job placement.Businesses hiring Job Corp candidates are offered tax incentives.
  • The program lasts 15 months and rewards the participants with a $1000.00 graduation gift with successful completion of the program.

  • Website alerts training to be offered at the next SNA General Meeting-May 18th.
  • Next Website Committee Meeting is Tuesday, May 10th, 8:15 AM at Brighton Center Family Center.
  • Work Supports
  • The committee is focused on how to connect the working poor to supportive services they may be eligible for such as WIC, SNAP, and healthcare.
  • The next Work Supports meeting will be Wednesday, May 4th from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. Lunch will be served, RSVP to Melissa Hall-Sommer
  • Furniture Task Force
  • Thanks to all who participated in Sweet Dreams NKY; 50 beds built in 50 minutes.
  • Quality control was assessed at the wrap up meeting on April 13th; the team will make adjustments to the event as observed and documented.
  • The next Furniture Task Force meeting will be in August, date will be announced at a later time.
  • Housing Task Force
  • A sub-group has been formed for caseworker/advocates to be led by Justin Beale of the Welcome House. So far, 14 individuals have notified Justin of their interest of attending the meeting; a date for the meeting will be announced via email.
  • A survey will be sent out to potential landlords once approved by the Fair Housing Board.
  • The next meeting of the Housing Task Force will be Tuesday, May 3rd, at 3:00 PM.
  • Executive Committee
  • The SNA Executive Committee agrees that replacing outdated technology will help build the capacity and effectiveness of the SNA.
  • Round table discussions at SNA meetings were approved and will be implemented at the next SNA General Meeting May 18th.
