Incredible Years® Child (Dinosaur School) Classroom Dina Curriculum
October 2nd – 4th 2018 (Bangor) with Anne Breese
This three-day workshop, facilitated by Anne Breese, presents aspects of effective classroom management skills including: proactive teaching strategies, use of encouragement and incentives to enhance social and emotional competence, strategies to manage mis-behaviour in the classroom and to foster positive relationships with difficult students and collaborative approaches to working with parents and enhancing home/school connections.
Additionally the workshops will cover how teachers can deliver the Dinosaur Social Skills and Problem-Solving curriculum as a classroom-based prevention programme. Circle time lesson plans, small group activities and promotion strategies designed to promote key social skills will be role-played and discussed. The training will be applicable to Teachers and School based support staff.
Goals of the child training series are to:
- Promote emotional, social and academic competence and reduce aggressive and noncompliant behaviours.
- Strengthen children’s social skills and appropriate play skills (turn-taking, waiting, asking, sharing, helping and complementing).
- Promote children’s use of self-control strategies such as effective problem-solving steps and effective anger management strategies.
- Increase emotional awareness by activities such as labelling feelings and recognising the differing views of oneself and others and enhancing perspective-taking.
- Boost academic success reading and school readiness.
- Reduce defiance, aggressive behaviour and related conduct problems such as noncompliance, peer aggression and rejection, bullying, stealing and lying.
- Decrease children’s negative cognative attributions and conflict management approaches.
- Increase self-esteem and self-confidence.
- In addition to the training delegates will receive continued support in the role-out and delivery of programmes within school from the Centre for Evidence based Early Intervention. This will include supervision and coaching and termly networking events to share best practice and trouble shoot
Please note unless twelve people are registered to attend, this training will not be run.
Facilitators
Anne Breese is a Community Advisory Teacher within the Children and Young Peoples Partnership in Powys. She has 30 years experience as a Nursery/Reception Teacher, delivering and promoting Dina School within her class and whole school. Anne is fully committed to the Incredible Years® Programmes and has become an accredited leader in the Parent, Dina School,Teacher Classroom Management and School Readiness programmes. She is a Mentor for the Dina School programme and a Peer Coach in training for the Parent programmes. Anne regularly delivers the Teacher Classroom Management programme throughout Powys and as part of her role as a community Advisory Teacher she delivers and supports the delivery of the incredible Years®programmes within Powys.
