How do I apply?

There are three main stages to the online part of your application;

1. Your Careers Hub profile

If you don’t have one already, you need to create a BBC Careers Hub profile. This will be linked to your Work Experience application and any future jobs or Trainee Schemes you apply for.

We strongly recommend that you create your account and complete the profile section before applying for a Work Experience placement.

Once you’ve created an account, there are a series of sections you need to complete before you can apply. The profile is mainly designed for people applying for paid work, so there are some sections which might not feel relevant to you. Here are some hints and tips to help you with the confusing bits.

  • Personal Statement – This should be 2-4 sentences outlining your skills and attributes that tell us about who you are.
  • References – We don’t use references for Work Experience Placements, so you can leave this blank
  • Desired Salary – BBC Work Experience placements are unpaid, so you can leave this section blank.
  • Career History – use this section to tell us about any paid or unpaid work you have done. You don’t need to be 100% accurate on the start end dates, but please be as accurate as you can.
  • Skills Section – This is a list of skills you have (such as problem solving, organisation or communication), technology or computer programmes you can use and languages you can speak. These don’t need to be in sentences but you need to click ‘Add Skill’ after you’ve entered each one.

When you’ve completed your profile, you can apply for specific Work Experience placements, jobs and Trainee Schemes. Remember, you can log in and change/update your profile at any time.

2. The Questionnaire

When you apply for Work Experience, you’ll be directed to complete an application questionnaire. To help you prepare, here are the questions you’ll be asked.

3. The Assessment

After you’ve submitted your application we’ll email you a link to a short online assessment which is based on BBC’s Values. It is designed to find out how you feel about certain aspects of your own behaviour so you don’t need to prepare for it in advance and there are no wrong answers. Please keep an eye out for it and complete it as soon as you can.

What happens to my application after I submit it?

We’ll review your application and if we think you might be right for one of our placements, we’ll give you a call.

Please remember that we receive a lot of applications and we can’t offer a placement to everyone.
