REGULAR MEETING:

The Board of Education of Manhattan School District 114, in the County of Will and the State of Illinois, met at Wilson Creek Elementary School onJanuary 13, 2016 for a regular meeting.

ROLL CALL:

President, Scott Mancke, called the meeting to order at 7:09p.m.

APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA:

D. DeCaprio made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda as presented, with a second by D. Murphy. Roll Call Vote:0 nays, 5ayes – Gray, DeCaprio, Gmazel, Mancke, and Murphy. Motion Carried.

VISITORS TO BE HEARD:

Teachers from all three schools were present to present the Board with an update on our progress of aligning the Science curriculum to the NGSS and how those standards are being addressed at all grade levels.

GOOD NEWS

Board members had all good news prior to the meeting.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT:

Insurance Renewal for the 2016 Calendar Year – We did not expect any significant change in the premium, therefore we did not recommend going out for bid. The renewal came in with a slight decrease of approximately $1,200 from the previous year.

D. Murphy made a motion to approve the 2016 Insurance Renewal with Wright Specialty Insurance as presented, with a second by A. Gmazel. All voted Aye, motion carried.

State of the Village/School Address – The meeting will be held in February and hosted by Wilson Creek. We do not have a date yet.

2016-17 Regular Board Meeting Dates – Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month. Supt. Ragon will have dates/times ready to present for action at the February Board Meeting.

2016-17 School Calendar – Supt. Ragon will have final information from the Lincoln-Way superintendents after their meeting on Tuesday. It appears that they are all attempting to follow the calendar of Lincoln-Way 210 regarding both Christmas and Spring Break. Supt. Ragon will have a final calendar ready to present for approval at the February Board Meeting.

Closed Session Minutes – The Board will need to take action on the Closed Session Minutes as well as the Recorded Minutes. Supt. Ragon recommends to keep minutes closed and destroyrecordings of Closed Session minutes in accordance with the state law.

D. Murphy made a motion to keep Closed Session Minutes of the regular meetings of July 8, 2015, August 12, 2015, September 9, 2015, October 14, 2015, November 11, 2015, and December 9, 2015 closed, with a second by M. Gray. All voted Aye, motion carried.

A. Gmazel made a motion to permanently destroy the Closed Session Recordings of the regular meetings of February 12, 2014, March 12, 2014, April 9, 2014, May 14, 2014, June 11, 2014, and July 9, 2014, with a second by M. Gray. All voted Aye, motion carried

Student Enrollment has increased to 1406.

All three school nurses will be meeting to begin putting together protocols and procedures for the district.

District C & I team will met January 7. Agenda is focused on the purpose of team and planning for the February Teachers Institute Day. Committee will now be referenced as our District Leadership Team.

This month we have to let LWASE 843 know what services/programming we will continue to utilize them for at 114. Supt. Ragon and Mrs. Karalus have spoken with Sarah Rexroad and per her recommendations the following is recommended to be handled by 114 personnel: Early Childhood Evaluations, Harrisburg Reporting and Adaptive PE.

Next month the Board will need to review and establish the fees for the 2016-17 school year. Manhattan 114 fees continue to be consistent with the other Lincoln Way feeder districts, with the exception of New Lenox 122, whose fees are higher than the others. Supt. Ragon will communicate with the Finance Committee members and bring a recommendation before the Board at the February meeting for any proposed increase or to have the fees remain at the current levels.

D. Murphy made a motion to approve the IASB policy updates as recommended, with a second by A. Gmazel. Roll Call Vote: 0 nays, 5 ayes – Mancke, DeCaprio, Murphy, Gmazel, and Gray. Motion Carried.

M. Gray made a motion to approve the retirement of Pete Slattery, with a second by A. Gmazel. Roll Call Vote: 0 nays, 5 ayes – Mancke, DeCaprio, Murphy, Gmazel, and Gray. Motion Carried.

CLOSED SESSION:

No further closed session was needed.
