He has given performances and clinics at “Day of Percussion” events in several states and has served on the faculties of the United States Percussion Camp and the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. He performs contemporary and tradition chamber music with his trumpet/ percussion duo, Double Take, and also performs in the vibes and piano jazz duo, the Haydon/Parker Duo. Prior to his appointment at Fayetteville State University in 2003, Don held positions at the University of Missouri – St. Louis, Chadron State College (Nebraska) and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He holds a B.M. in Percussion Performance and Music Business from DePauw University and a D.M.A. in Percussion Performance from the University of Texas in Austin. Born and raised in the San Francisco bay area, David Garibaldi began playing drums in elementary school at the age of ten. At age seventeen, he started his professional career and, in 1966, joined the United States Air Force where he became a member of the 724th USAF band, stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington. Upon leaving the military in 1969, David returned to the bay area and, in July of 1970, joined the legendary band Tower of Power. It was in this setting that he became one of the most influential drummers of his generation and known as an innovator in funk drumming. As a writer and performer David has worked with such artists as: Patti Austin, Natalie Cole, Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum, Boz Scaggs, The BBC Orchestra, Gino Vannelli, Talking Drums, The Buddy Rich Orchestra, Ray Obiedo, Wishful Thinking, and others. Currently, David is once again performing and recording with Tower of Power. In 1998, after an eighteen year “break”, he rejoined the group for some “unfinished business”. Visit his website at
