CRESTWOOD CURLING CLUB
LADIES LEAGUE & PLAYOFF RULES
2012-2013
1. GENERAL:
Unless otherwise noted, the Canadian Curling Association Rules of Curling for General Play (herein referred to as ‘CCA Rules’) will apply to all games played in the league.
2. START OF THE GAME:
- Games are to start promptly at the time posted and at the sound of the buzzer:
- Wednesday draw times are: 8:15 p.m.
- Any team unable to ice a team of a minimum of three players (as per the rules of substitution) within 20 minutes of the start of the game shall default the game.
- If the team is able to play within 10 minutes of the start time:
- No points or hammer will be forfeited.
- If the team is able to play between 10 and 20 minutes, the violating team will forfeit the following to the opposing team:
- One point.
- One end.
- The hammer.
3. DEFAULTS:
Any team unable to attend a scheduled game is expected to contact the opposition and the office and will automatically default that game to the opposing team. There will be no “make-up” games allowed except in the case of Zone participants (see below).
ZONE PARTICIPANTS:
In the event that a team must default a scheduled club game due to play in Ladies' or mixed Play-downs or ensuing events (Northerns, Provincials, Canadians), a make-up game shall be allowed provided the following conditions are met:
1.The game is completed prior to the start of the last game of the round in which the default occurred.
2.Teams would need to be missing two players from their team (not including fifth members).
3.The team requesting the make-up game must give the opposing team ample notice that they will be requesting a make-up game.
The two affected teams will determine a mutually suitable time to play and ensure that the results are properly posted.
Any disputes shall be referred to the Draw & Rules Committee, who have the right to designate a time the game shall be played.
4. END OF GAME:
All games are a maximum of eight ends.
Ties will not be broken (see ‘Posting Results’ below).
Time Restraints:
- A buzzer may sound near the end of the game.
- Teams may finish the end currently being played (at least one rock must have been delivered) and one more end only will be played.
POSTING RESULTS:
Draw and result sheets are posted on the Ladies’ League notice board.
It is the responsibility of both the winning and losing Vice-Skips to post the results of their game on the draw sheet immediately after the game. If neither Vice-Skip posts results of the game, the Draws & Rules Committee reserves the right to assign a loss to both teams.
WIN = 3 POINTS
TIE = 1 POINT
LOSS = 0 POINTS
5. SUBSTITUTES
Any team using an illegal substitute will automatically forfeit the game in dispute.
a)Regular League Games:
Teams may use up to two (2) substitution players in any given game, provided the following conditions are met:
- Two members from the team’s official roster must be curling in the game.
- Ladies only are allowed as substitutes.
- Substitutes may play any position except skip (see CCA Rules article 6: Skips)
- Substitutes shall not throw fourth stones in the delivery rotation.
b)Club Playdown Games:
Teams may use up to two (2) substitution players. Substitutes must meet the following conditions:
- Must have been listed on a Crestwood League team roster
- Must not be on a team thatqualified for Ladies playdowns.
- Must have played in at least three (3) Ladies Regular League games.
- Players are not eligible to spare for any other Ladies teams once they have competed in the playdowns.
- Substitutes must follow the specified delivery rotation:
- One Substitute: Must play Lead position
- Two Substitutes: Must play Lead, and Second position
6. PLACEMENT IN THE DRAW:
i.First five (5) game square:
- The top four teams from the previous year will be seeded, two in each section.
- The remaining teams will be drawn randomly.
ii.Second five (5) game square:
- All teams will be ranked in order of their team totals for placement in the second square.
- The six (6) highest teams will be placed in “A” section.
- The next six (6) in “B” section.
- If two or more teams are tied, the seeded teams will take the higher positions.
iii.Third five (5) game square:
- Placement in sections will be based on total aggregate points to date with:
- The top six (6) in “A” section.
- The next six (6) in “B” section.
- If two or more teams are tied in a manner that affects which section said teams are placed, the teams shall be ranked using the following criteria:
1.The team that was in the higher section in the previous round shall be ranked higher
2.The head-to-head matchup in the previous round.
iv.Fourth five (5) game square:
- Placement for the sections will be the same as the third game square.
v.Fourth game square is the Prize Square.
- League awards for section winners are based on the result of this fourth section.
Tie Breakers:
Ties will be resolved by the tie breaker rule (see 7, below)
7. TIE BREAKER RULE:
In the event of a tie, the following criteria shall be used to determine standings:
i.At the end of squares One, Two, and Three:
Standings will be determined in the following order:
1)Head-to-head results between the tied teams in the current square.
2)The number of aggregate points at the start of the square.
3)The results of all head-to-head games between tied teams.
4)The final standings in the 2010-2011 season, if applicable.
5)A coin toss.
ii.At the end of the Fourth Square:
A berth in the club playoffs shall be determined in the following order:
1)The results of the head-to-head game in the final square.
2)The number of aggregate points.
3)The results of all head-to-head games during the 2011-2012 season.
4)A tie-breaker game shall be played on a date and time as specified by the Draws & Rules Committee or by Club Management.
8. PLACEMENT IN THE CLUB PLAYOFFS:
i.Three (3) teams will represent the league as follows:
- The Grand Aggregate winner (see 9 for definition)
- “A” section winner (see 9 for definition)
- “A” section most Aggregate points
- In the case of a tie for a playoff spot, the tie breaker rule (see 7-ii).
ii.A player can only qualify and play for one ladies team in the playoffs. In the event that a player is a member of more than one team that qualifies for the playoffs, said player must choose to play for only one of the teams. Any player playing in the playoffs must meet the following criteria:
- they must be listed in the Crestwood Roster of said team
- they must have played in at least three (3) Ladies league games
- Fifth or subsequent players may declare whether they are playing for a qualifying team or are available as a spare in the playoffs
- Changes from original roster should be given to office or the Draws & Rules Committee prior to commencing playdowns.
iii.Club Champion will represent the Crestwood Curling Club at the Inland City Championships.
9. AWARDS:
For each league, the following will be awarded:
- Grand Aggregate Winner – Most points over twenty (20) games. Tie breaker rule 7-ii applies. Only teams that played in the “A” section during the final rotation are eligible to receive the Grand Aggregate award.
- Each section winner (A & B) – Best record over the last five (5) game square. Tie breaker rule 7-ii applies.
All winners will be presented with their prizes on Awards Night.
