Non-executive Member Appointed to the Care Inspectorate
The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Sport today announced the appointment of Gavin Dayer as a Non-Executive Member to the Care Inspectorate.
The Care Inspectorate is the body that came into being on 1st April 2011 under the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 as the new single improvement and scrutiny regulator in Scotland for social work and social care services, taking over the functions of the former Care Commission, Social Work Inspection Agency and child protection unit of HMIE. As such, the Care Inspectorate has a significant part to play in improving services for adults and children across Scotland.
Gavin Dayer - is delighted to take up this post and looking forward to working collaboratively with other members of the Board. He believes strongly in a person-centred approach to all care provision and has over 10 years’ experience working in the voluntary sector in a mixture of voluntary and paid positions. In the last 5 years he has mainly been involved in the employability sector working in partnership with individuals with disabilities to assist them to gain employment. He has also had experience of counselling individuals in the field of addiction. Currently, his qualifications are a BA (Hons) in Politics & Social Policy and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Careers Guidance from the University of the West of Scotland. He will shortly graduate from the University of Strathclyde with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling. Gavin has a disability and receives individual support from a care provider on a daily basis which allows him to live independently.
Hebelieves that this mix of experience both professionally and personally will enable him to make a valuable contribution to the Board of the Care Inspectorate.
Gavin’s appointment will commence on the 20 July 2015 and will end on the 28 February 2019.
This appointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £161 per day for a time commitment of 2 days per month.
Gavin does not hold any other public appointments.
This appointment is regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Gavin has not undertaken any political activity in the last 5 years.
