Course Focus: A CTE Internship is an educational experience in a work environment. The topics and assignments online are designed to deepen your insight about yourself, the world of work, and being successful in the workplace. The goal is to help you be successful in the internship experience and to create a foundation towards entry-level employment and/or advanced education. You’ll be supported throughout the experience by your facilitator and the community sponsor(employer) who will work with you to build your competencies, address concerns, and aid you in adjusting to work in a professional setting.

Course Requirements: To receive one credit, the required activities include 35 hours of classroom instruction to include: assignments online in Schoology, community sponsor evaluation for each grading period, 100 hours of documented on-the-job work experience and a final exam which will count for 25% of the student’s final grade.

Course Learning Outcomes: At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Apply knowledge to real-world challenges in an internship environment.
  • Identify skills and experiences necessary to reach their future goals; develop learning objectives for their internship site that will help them move toward these career aspirations.
  • Articulate their own skills, strengths and values within the context of the work environment and job search.
  • Engage in responsible conduct while working as an intern and allow decisions to be informed by a value-centered life.

Grading: A CTE Internship is an opportunity provided by a community sponsor for the purpose of providing a substantial learning experience about a particular field while gaining real-world work experience. Each six-week grading period, the CTE Intern will work on various assignments online. The CTE Intern will also keep journals in Schoology of their work experiencewhich will be shared with their Career Development Facilitator/Coordinatorand the community sponsor as requested. An evaluation will also be completed by the community sponsor each six weeks regarding the CTE Intern’s performance, as well as, signed weekly time sheets.

Please note: Please do not put off completing assignments and journal entries because it will negatively impact your grade.

The following is the grading system for each six-week grading period:
