Overview
By the end of this unit, you should be able to describe the various ways by which God is revealed to people, and reflect on your own personal search for God.
Enduring Understandings
- When we respond to the invitation to live in communion with God, we become more fully the God called us to be.
- We can come to know God through the natural world and through human reason.
- God’s Revelation is communicated through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition.

- How does one find true happiness?

You should know:
- Each person has been created with a longing to know God and to live in communion with him.
- Responding to God’s invitation to live in communion with him is the path by which we may attain true happiness.
- Natural revelation allows us to know God through the natural world and through human reason.
- Early theologians influenced the Catholic understanding of natural revelation.
- Sacred Scripture contains the written account of God’s Divine Revelation to the Jewish people and to the early Christians.
- Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition are the means by which Divine Revelation is shared with every generation.
You should be able to:
- Reflect, both verbally and in writing, on how you have come to know God.
- Explore your identity and begin to consider how to become the person God created you to be.
- Identify examples of faithful people who have responded to God’s call with courage and creativity.
- Articulate an awareness of God’s presence in nature.
