Use this guide to help you complete your reading response logs.
Summary and PredictionNotes
- Write a summary of the assigned reading.
- 3 key events in the reading using transition words (Example: Firstly, next, finally)
- Conclude with a main idea statement.
- Be at least four sentences.
- Make a prediction about what will happen next.
- Be linked to the events described in your summary.
- Be at least two sentences.
Notes
1. Record four questions you have as you read.
Your questions must
- Include two comprehension questions (what, when, where, who) and two analytical questions (why, how)
- Be punctuated with a question mark (?)
- Be numbered #1 – 4
- How…..?
- Why would…?
- What if…..?
- What happened…?

1. Record ONE passage/paragraph/quote from these chapters that stands out to you as an important moment in the novel.
The passage must:
- be at least two sentences.
- be surrounded by “quotation marks”
- be followed by the page number.
Your explanation must:
- be at least 3 sentences
“You don’t know about me without you have read a book by the name of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer; but that ain’t no matter. The book was made by Mr. Mark Twain…” page 11
This passage opens Huck Finn. It sets the stage immediately by connecting it to Tom Sawyer, but is its own story. Plus, we ‘hear’ Huck’s voice and already his personality is becoming apparent! He sounds illiterate, but playful. Breaks the fourth wall!
