1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Welcome
The Gallery is part of the School of Communication and Creative Industries (SCCI) and contributes to the school’s educational program for its past and present students, and the Riverina community. We aim to support students, staff and artists by providing a non-commercial exhibition venue with a diverse program of art forms and subject matter.
1.2 Gallery Rationale
The SCCI Gallery welcomes and invites diverse applications from students and staff past and present, at either undergraduate or postgraduate level, and also from the wider arts community within the Riverina district and beyond. The exhibition proposals should have a relevance either to this University or to the Wagga Wagga and Riverina district, and we welcome applications that identify regionality within a national context. Applicants should have a demonstrated connection either to the University (ie, previous PhD or MA graduates from SCCI, etc.) or whose work and focus amplifies regionality and high level art and image culture that would be an asset to the new gallery’s profile, and to the University to meet its objectives both towards regional engagement and towards showcasing best practice in creative arts.
Diversity of traditional and new media is encouraged, as are exhibition submissions that identify a wide range of performing and visual arts outcomes that the new gallery space can encompass - this may include exhibitions that are fine art, design, new media, or performative in their scope.
The SCCI Gallery can accommodate painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, design, animation, textiles, sound, video, sculpture, performance and installation art - and any and all theatrical, performative, visual and sound works; as many diverse arts and media and idea gallery installations as possible are encouraged.
2. GENERAL INFORMATION
2.1 Applications
· Applications are invited from artists and curators for individual or group exhibitions. If applying as a group, you would need to consider the thematic link underlying the exhibition proposal for the work, and what gives the "group exhibition" its unified purpose. How the work acts as an installation specific to this space may well be one key aspect considered in your application.
· Community groups and students are encouraged to apply.
· For the period January 2012-December 2012 each exhibition period will be 3 weeks. You will need to nominate preferred exhibition periods on your application form. This block includes installation and de-installation of an exhibition.
· Applications can be for:
o The entire exhibition space.
o A single space in G1, G2 and G3 or two interconnected spaces.
o There is a box on the application form to indicate if your proposal is not accepted for the "entire space" of the gallery, would you accept one of the smaller spaces, or be part of a two or three person exhibition.
· Also note: if you chose one rather than all exhibition options there is the likelihood that your work will be displayed in the same proximity to another artist’s work, which may feature sound. If this is the case with your exhibition, the SCCI Gallery Committee will contact you when programming the exhibitions for the coming year.
2.2 Fees and Services
Due to the generous support of Charles Sturt University we are able to offer free Gallery hire.
Therefore, publicity and promotion, media releases, mail out and all standard running costs are the responsibility of the exhibiting artist(s).
2.3 Installation

· The Gallery takes no responsibility for damaged or stolen works and advise that exhibitors supervise their exhibition during opening hours Monday – Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm. Upon request weekend access can be arranged.
· If deemed necessary by the Gallery Management Committee, exhibitors will be required to repaint the Gallery walls or plinths, at the end of the exhibition period.
2.4 Signage and Promotion
· Exhibitors will be responsible for generating all signage, labels, didactic panels, invitations and promotional material such as posters.

3. INSTALLATION / GENERAL
3.1 Equipment
Limited tools and equipment, including ladders, are available for installation/de-installation of the exhibition. Please contact the Gallery Manager prior to installation.
3.2 Hanging
3.2.1 Framed Work
For hanging works on the walls the Gallery has stainless steel cables that can be moved along the walls for positioning. The cables have hooks that can be adjusted up and down the cable. The hooks are locked into position with an allen key. Single hooks can be used for small/light works or double hung for larger/heavier works. Each hook has a 20kg capacity and can be moved up or down the cable. To attach works to the hook the best method is to use D shaped hooks on the art works frame, for stability and symmetry.
3.2.2 Suspended Work
There is a cross section ceiling bolt lattice for work that is to be suspended within a space. Each space has a maximum holding capacity of 200kg as stipulated by Zauner Construction planning guidelines.
3.2.3 Pinned Work
Walls are 13mm gyp and 18mm ply that is capable of taking most installation pins. Large nails and larger broad head pins should be avoided as stipulated by Zauner Construction planning guidelines.
3.2.4 Plinths
The Gallery has plinths approximately 1m high and 45cm Square in limited numbers. Please contact the Gallery Manager prior to installation.
3.2.5 Projection
Projectors currently are 1280 x 800 pixels native resolution as stipulated in AV installation guidelines, however full 1080p projectors are flagged as a necessary upgrade on SCCI Gallery agenda.
The projectors have the capacity to:
· Playback a wide range of digital media.
· Playback at a downscaled HD resolution.
· Be scheduled to automatically start up and shut down.
· Accommodate a play list and provide more people with the opportunity to exhibit work for group exhibitions with wide-ranging content.
· Playback DVD, CD, BluRay and other media sources.
· Be networked for streamed media.
3.2.6 Lighting
3.2.6.1 Fluorescent tubes
The gallery has dimmable fluorescent tubes for each space that provide the space with a minimal lighting impact. These tracks are dimmable and editable through liaison with gallery staff.
3.2.6.2 Exhibition lighting
The gallery is fitted with inbuilt lighting tracks with 50w halogen bulbs that are currently calibrated as 3000 degrees Kelvin warm light. These tracks are likely to be replaced with 4000k lighting in the near future, check with gallery management for details. The process for moving lights in the track is as follows:
· Gently pull down light with two hands, it is possible to pull the lights entirely out of their track so be careful, they only need drop 50-60mm.
· When dropped the light will be capable of a full 360 degrees pivot.
· Lights cannot be moved along the track and must be focused from their fixed position.
· When not using a light push the light back up to its standard position.
· Any specialist lighting including spotlighting will need to be sourced by the exhibitor and is subject to stringent occupational health and safety policies of the gallery.
3.2.6.3 Louvres
There is only an eastern and western track to control the louvred windows; we recommend allowing gallery staff to set the optimal louvered direction for the season allowing the most lighting control. This lighting control has an effect on humidity within the space and is subject under the temperature control guidelines.
