-The rough draft must be typed and printed on paper when you come to class.
-The only heading is in the right header: full name, page number if you want
-Double-space in 12 pt. Times New Roman. .
-descriptive title: plain text, centered at top of first page
-Use present tense to discuss the events of the play.
-Use formal English. Avoid idiomatic language.
-Do not use any personal pronouns.
-Contractions are not allowed.
-Meaningfully incorporate literary terminology.
-Even though the examiner will have read the play, you should contextualize your quotations. This might be as simple as adding, “In the scene after Nora has sneaked a macaroon, …”
-Proofread and edit for errors before you print your copy to bring to class.
-The IB word limit is 1200-1500 words. Use the word count. Record your word count at the top of the first page.
-Introduction includes:
-hook
-thesis statement
-downshift (including explanation of any unwieldy terms)
-preview sub-assertions
-includes play’s title and author
-Sub-assertions:
-Be sure that the topic sentence for each sub-assertion is tied directly to the thesisstatement. Connect each point you make to the thesis statement.
-Discuss evidence in LOGICAL ORDER.
-DO NOT WRITE ONE, BIGPARAGRAPH FOR EACH SUB-ASSERTION!
-one topic=one paragraph; use the categories you created when you organized your evidence
-Make sure each paragraph is unified: TS, CL.
-Anchor ALL quotations. No quotations except those used for a title or hook should ever stand alone!
-Be sure that your anchors and quotations form complete sentences.
-Review dialogue format forquotations that includes back and forth conversation between two or more characters.
-Be sure to explain how each piece of evidence is relevant to your thesis statement.
-Conclusion:
-Do not simply copy and paste your introduction into the conclusion.
-Re-word your thesis statement.
-Review your sub-assertions.
-Include your “final thoughts.”
