Materials:
Closed toed shoes and pants must be worn in the shops at all times. Safety glasses and hearing protection are provided.
Description:
Cabinetry is a class that is offered to all students in grades 9-12. In Cabinetry a student will learn the basics of cabinets and furniture making. Each student will first build a simple woods project that will serve both as a refresher and assessment of skills learned in Intro to Woods class. Next students will build a nightstand/end table project. Time permitting students will be given the opportunity to design there own final project. Students should leave this class feeling proficient and comfortable with all machines in the wood shop.
Goals:
1. All students can measure to the 1/16th of an inch, efficiently.
2. Demonstrate safe practices with all machines/tools.
3. Cooperate with peers to complete each project on time.
4. Show constant improvement with the use of the machines/tools, and wood practices.
Objectives:
1. Respond to verbal description and direction shop time.
2. Show confidence while using machines/tools.
3. Identify Parts and perform construction of a cabinets face frame.
4. Properly Construct and Install a drawer.
5. Properly Construct and Install a cabinet door.
Requirements:
1. Must be present to receive daily points. (15pts)
2. All students must participate.
3. Wear safety glasses at all times.
4. All students must be willing to take direction.

Course Layout
Unit 1: Safety, Tools, & Equipment
1) Students will be given safety review demonstrations on each of the machines they will be using followed by a individual written quiz.
2) The written safety quiz will be followed by each individual student. Students must also demonstrating the proper use of the machine before the instructor will sign off on permission to use the machine (band saw, sanders, miter saw, jointer, drum sanders, drill press, planers).
Unit 2: Practices & Procedures
1) Students will review and demon straight competency in components covered in Intro to Woods. Such items include…

Unit 3: Cabinets
1) Students will learn and understand the basic components of a cabinet.
2) Students will learn industry standard terminology related to cabinet making.
3) Students will understand that cabinets come in many different distinct styles and sizes to meet the needs and wants of consumers.
Unit 4: Drawers
1) Students will be able to identify drawer components and understand how they are constructed.
2) Students will be able to plan, construct, and install a functional drawer into an opening.
Unit 5: Doors
- Students will be able to identify several different door styles.
- Students will explore different overlays, hinges, and operating systems.
- Students will plan, construct, and install a functional door into an opening.
Unit 6: Free Build
- With only a few weeks remaining students will be allowed to design, draw, and dimension a choice project.
- The project must be approved by the instructor be for the student can proceed building the project.
- Following the same basic steps as previous project, students will be given work time to complete their choice project.
- A final wrap-up test will be administered during the final week.
