Dear Pediatric Students:

NURSING 315-Spring 2009

Welcome back to the Spring 2009 semester! This website is hopefully designed to provide you with all the information you need to know to navigate this course. Please be aware that it is currently under construction since we have a new full time person teaching pedi this year, please welcome Professor Kristine Ruggiero. Pediatrics is not on Web CT as of yet ; I have continued to use this faculty-based web site. You do not need a password. If you encounter problems with navigation please contact

The course packet is available on this web site. Down loading the course packet which includes the syllabus should not be done in the Nursing Laboratory. It is assumed that you will have made a copy of the packet and read the syllabus by the first day of class. Unless you tell me you need clarification, it is understood that you agree with the requirements of the course. Please pay special attention to the requirements of the first week. You have been assigned to a Monday or Thursday lecture time. Your attendance in class is required and this first week involves a Wednesday instead of the usual Monday lecture time. You can obtain a copy of the course calendar on the website. This will tell you the topic for lecture on each day as well as the date of quizzes and tests. The readings are listed on the first page of each topic section in the packet. Be aware that sometimes it is not required to read the entire chapter for a topic so be sure to be attentive to the reading assignments. It is expected that you will have done the reading before attending classroom lecture.

Class will be held Mondays or Thursdays this quarter and you have been assigned to a lecture class. Please see the link for Lecture List on the website. The times for the Thurs class are 8-1PM in HB 127 . The times for the Monday class are split due to the faculty needing to go to meetings during community time (11-12:30) so your lecture times are 8-10:50 HB 115 and 12:30-2:20 HB 207 for Q 3. I am aware that some of you will be running off to clinical at NSCH by 2P and others need to get to LGH by 3:30. We will do our best to accommodate your needs. We realize this is not ideal. If there is anyone in the Thursday class who can switch to Monday, please contact DonnaHills.

Monday lectures will miss a class so you will be starting on Wed. Jan. 21st. The Thurs. lecture will start on Thurs. Jan 22nd as usual.

Your class size is large so it will be imperative that you listen well to announcements made in class and keep conversations to a minimum. Talking during lecture will be distracting to other students so please be courteous to your peers and the faculty.

THERE WILL BE A QUIZ EACH WEEK AT THE START OF CLASS UNLESS AN EXAM IS SCHEDULED FOR THAT DAY.

Up to date immunizations, CPR (American Heart Association or Red Cross only) and Liability insurance are required to be in place by the first day of class. Records on file will be checked. If there is any incomplete information you will be asked to provide that on the first day of class so bring to class on the first day your copy of:

1.Documentation of current CPR & Mantoux (within 1 year)--required by clinical agencies as well

as evidence of MMR, chicken pox titre, Hepatitis B and Tetanus. Do not ask us to provide you with your information; you should have your own copy of your immunizations.

2.Validation of liability insurance if not purchased through Salem State College.

You should have your own copy of all of the above information. If you know something has expired, leave the current copy in the mail box of DonnaHills in the nursing dept prior to the first day of class.

We look forward to working with you in the Spring 2009 semester.
