Examples of each influence and explore any likely effects on PIES
Interaction of influences / Use case studies to look at a range of influences and how they can work to have positive and negative effects on human behaviour and development, e.g. 3 year old child from one parent with limited income and no brothers/sisters.
How might attending nursery affect his/her physical, intellectual, emotional and social development?
How might limited income affect PIES? Etc.

Topic / Details / Completed
Theories of humandevelopment / Constructivist – Piaget
Behaviourist – Skinner
Social Learning – Bandura
Psychodynamic – Freud
Biological – Eysenck
Humanistic – Maslow
Choose one theory from each perspective and identify and describe main features of each theory.
Identify which area of development/behaviour chosen theory focuses on e.g. psychodynamic perspective: Freud: emotional and social development/behaviour.
Identify and describe criticisms of each theory. (do not just identify criticisms – you must be able to expand on them and provide examples to support the points you make)
Application of theories / Identify each care setting in the specifications – write a definition of each
For each describe the role of the setting and the practitioners within the settings. (It would benefit students to have a good understanding of the care values to support their understanding)
General understanding of how each theory could help practitioners within each setting e.g. residential homes – care workers would benefit from an understanding of Freud or Erikson to explain why a resident may be feeling undervalued and worthless despite the care worker always treating the resident with respect.
Case studies / The use of case studies to encourage an understanding of how all aspects of this unit interact.
(More demanding questions would expect students to be able to present an answer which draws information together in this way i.e. you will be expected to make your own case studies in the exam to show application)
