Biomes Storybook Project
Your task: Create and illustrate a children’s bookabout the nine major land biomes and seven aquatic biomes. In the book, you will use information from your textbook and internet sources to compare the biomes.
The book is due BEFORE SCHOOL ON, Monday, October 3rd (it will not be accepted after October 3rd) and is worth a Test Grade.
It is required that the book:
- Be written in the style of a children’s book – Be creative!
- Be a minimum of 18pages long (fronts of pages only, regular printer paper – not including the covers)
- Be bound together (with brads, ribbons, etc. – not just taped or stapled)
- Have numbered pages(not including the covers)
- Have a front cover (including a title and illustration) and back cover (including an “About the Author” paragraph with your name and period as well as facts about you)
- Have color illustrations (can be printed photos – citations must be included) on each page spread*
The storybook should be laid out as follows:
Front Cover – You must include a front cover with the title of your storybook and a cover illustration related to your story about biomes.
Page 1: Introduction – On the first page, you will introduce biomes. Define the termbiome and explain why biomes are important to the study of geography.
Pages 2-17: The 9 Biomes – On these pages, you will describe the characteristics and location(s) of each land/aquaticbiome and the type of organisms (plant and animal) present and any special adaptations of these organisms. (note: Aquatic biomes can be found in many places, so a location may not be necessary) Each biome must have its own page on which you describe the biome in 4-6 sentences and provide a color illustration that makes its unique characteristics clear.
Land Biomes to include are: Tundra, Coniferous Forest, Deciduous Forest, Chaparral, Grassland, Rainforest, Savanna, Tropical Seasonal Forest, Desert.
Aquatic Biomes will be divided among freshwater and marine, include:
FRESHWATER: Rivers/streams, Lakes/ponds, freshwater wetlands (chose either a swamp, marsh or bog),
MARINE: salt marsh, coral reef, intertidal zone (high and low tide) and open ocean (hit on the following zones: euphotic zone, bathyal zone and abyssal zone)
Pages 18: Citations – Include all citations for books, articles and websites used for text and pictures. Use MLA format
Back Cover – You must include a back cover with an “About the Author” paragraph.
