Information and technology skills and competencies are interrelated.

Technology literacy is the ability to use technology to become information literate.

Information literacy is the ability

  • to know what information you need
  • to be able to identify, locate, evaluate information
  • to effectively use information

By the end of Grade 12, all students will be

  • independent, competent, responsible and confident users of information and technology and
  • able to apply related strategies for

acquiring basic skills and content knowledge,

collaborating with others,

communicating ideas,

solving problems and

pursuing personal interests.”

The Simsbury Information and Technology Literacy Curriculum indicates for all grade 9-12 SHS students

Collaborating with Teachers

The library media specialistcollaborates with all teachers to:

  • Plan, deliver and assess student achievement of the CT standards.
  • Integrate the CT standards into and across content areas.
  • Teach students information skills needed to become efficient and effective researchers.
  • Encourage free voluntary reading by giving book talks, creating book displays and promoting the importance of reading.
  • Integrate ICONN and other subscription databases into the curriculum.
  • Use technology:i.e. digital projectors, digital cameras, and presentation stations.
  • Integrate United Streaming Video clips into curriculum and create video and movies.
  • Select books, DVDs, andperiodicals to add to the collection.

  • Follow the Board of Education Acceptable Use of Technology Policy by using school computers to work on school assignments.
  • iPods are fine, but no cells.
  • Refrain from eating or drinking
  • We maintain an “academic climate.” Please respect others and work quietly.

  • Teachers can schedule use of the LMC @ home or in school.
  • Access the faculty portal, locate “Online Systems” and click on “Schedule High School Library.”
