Job Title:Electrical Labourer

Hours of Work:36.25 hours per week, 5 days out of 7 to be arranged

Location:All U.K University sites

Reporting to:Maintenance Manager/Maintenance Foreman

Purpose of the New Role:

To work as part of the Estates Maintenance Services Team contributing to the delivery of maintenance services across all University sites by undertaking Planned and Reactive maintenance to the University’s Low Voltage electrical systems, building services and other plant and equipment across the Estate.

Main Responsibilities / % of time
1. / Undertake allocated maintenance tasks to University Buildings, building services and engineering plant and equipment in an efficient, cost effective and skilled manner in accordance with current Health & Safety legislation and Health & Safety policies of The University and Estates. Liaise with customers and ensure the maintenance is carried out in co-operation and conjunction with other sections of the Estate Office and Schools, Divisions and service providers within The University / 85%
2. / To provide stand-in cover and act as a drop-in resource within the Estates Stores as required, providing counter cover and undertaking general stores tasks. / 5%
3. / Complete documentation pre and post task to ensure task is undertaken safely and records of work undertaken are accurate and interact with supervisors and Estates Helpdesk to ensure that records are kept up-to-date / 5%
4. / To adhere to Health & Safety Regulations, and comply with University, and external, standards, policies, procedures and codes of practice / 2%
5. / To be fully conversant with and competent to use all systems relevant to work area / 2%
6. / Undertaking and utilising training and development to enhance working skills and knowledge of self and team, to improve continuously service delivery / 1%
7. / Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the person appointed

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/
Education / Good level of literacy and numeracy / NVQ2 (or equivalent) in an electrical installation/engineering subject
Full current driving licence unless disability precludes this
Knowledge/Skills/
Training / Ability to read and record using instruments’ utility meters
Ability to undertake minor maintenance tasks with the minimum of supervision or as part of a team
Ability to select and use appropriate hand or powered tools / Understanding of Health & Safety legislation
Manual handling and lifting training
Experience / Understanding of electrical installation/engineering maintenance methods and materials
Experience of working within a building maintenance environment
Other / Able to undertake a wide range of tasks
Be available if required to work outside of a normal working hours
