We are pleased to enclose the registration materials for this year’s annual meeting in Santa Fe. The meeting venue at the Eldorado Hotel will provide splendid accommodations. We have also made arrangements for a wide variety of afternoon activities in the area after each morning’s scientific session. As always, youruniversal registration fee includesbreakfast and dinner for three days for you and your spouse.

The scientific program should be outstanding again this year. Dr. Mark Linskey, our Program Chair, is collecting abstracts. An abstract submission form is enclosed. Our Cloward award recipient has been selected. We will also have guest lecturers from the faculty at the Santa Fe Institute ( a unique organization dedicated to the study of complex systems. We will have a mini-symposium on Monday October 11 dedicated to a review of regionalization of neurosurgical care for trauma, stroke, pediatric neurosurgery and cerebrovascular disorders. The objectives for this year’s scientific program are:

1)Review the current state and future possibilities for medical simulation, especially with regard to surgical education.

2)Analyze options and outcomes for patients needing spinal surgery.

3)Discuss options for surgical and nonsurgical management of CNS neoplasms.

4)Discuss the role regionalization of care may have in the management of disease conditions that require subspecialty care or intensive resources.

Please remember that our meeting overlaps with the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, so it is highly recommended to make travel arrangements early this year. The hotel is located less than an hour by car form the Albuquerque airport. In addition to car rentals, shuttles, limousines and rail transportation are available. Our evening activities will again provide excellent venues, food and entertainment. Our opening reception on Friday October 8, will be in the presidential suite and include the lovely rooftop of the hotel. The local’s night on Saturday will be at the New Mexico History Museum, located just a couple of blocks away from our hotel. Our formal dinner in the ballroom of the Eldorado on Sunday will provide a lively band for dancing after dinner.

Enclosed please find information about our extensive range of options for afternoon activities. This year, our golf and tennis venues are away from the hotel. In order to make it easier for those playing golf or tennis to return in time for evening events, driving/car pooling is preferable. The tennis on both Saturday and Sunday will take place at the Shellaberger Tennis Center in Santa Fe, an outstanding facility a few miles from the Eldorado. Golfers will not want to miss Saturday at the Black Mesa Golf Club,( about 20 miles away from the hotel. Black Mesa is the premier course in the region.The Sunday golf outing will be at the Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe, ( about 8 miles from the Eldorado. Please note that because of our obligation to the tour operators, we will be unable to provide any refunds for these after September 6. In addition to the organized tours, there are a wide variety of museums, restaurants and art galleries just outside the front door of our hotel for you to explore on your own if you prefer. The area also has a wide variety of activities for those attending the meeting with children.
