Please briefly describe what experiences an intern in your district wouldreceive:
Interns are exposed to both special education and general education programs.
Under supervision of certified school psychologists, interns provide psychoeducational and psychological evaluations, consultation, training, counseling, behavior management, and crisis intervention services. Interns are assigned to a primary supervisor during the initial phase of training.
The assignment of supervisors is based on consideration of the needs and professional interests of each intern as well as the unique supervision style and experiential and training background of supervising psychologists.
Assignment to a secondary supervisor will occur within the same time frame, and is dependent on the intern’s areas of interest or need for professional growth.
Please describe how supervision is provided to interns in your district:
Interns will have the opportunity to observe supervisors as they function in different work roles. This phase of training may last for one or two weeks, depending on the past training and experience of the intern. After the observation phase, interns receive their own cases and work with their supervisors regarding the disposition of the case. Supervisors may observe interns as they provide direct services to students, consult with teachers and administrative staff, or participate in staffings, MET, or IEP meetings.
The length of this phase is dependent upon the progress of the intern.Throughout the first semester interns take on increasingly more independent work. By the second semester interns may be expected to be independent for 50% of the school week.
