Job Summary‬:

To provide high quality patient-focused health care services to all patients within the scope of practice through physician orders in accordance with all Texas state laws and regulations and company policies. ‬‬ Provides professional nursing care within the Fast ER Care Stand-Alone Emergency Room; coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with ED physicians regarding changes in patient’s status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.‬

Job Description:

  • The RN will provide ambulatory care which includes the gathering of the patients’ medical history, including all medicines the patient is currently taking, and will facilitate implementation of an appropriate care plan as ordered by the ED physician.
  • Responsibilities in the ER will include triaging patients, assigning acuity scale, Initial and ongoing assessments of patients, starting IV’s and collecting laboratory specimens, taking vital signs, EKG’s, administering medications, transferring patients to other facilities, cardiac monitoring, assisting physicians with procedures, and other duties as assigned by ER Director/Manager.

  • Assist team with basic facility maintenance such as emptying trash, stocking linens, and keeping the overall facility tidy.‬
  • Performs patient care functions in compliance with facility policies and procedures, maintains a Culture of Safety and quality.
  • Adheres to policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations and guidelines established by the facility.
  • Assists with management of supplies and equipment.
  • Keeps physician informed of patient activities/changes in condition.
  • Responds in a customer friendly atmosphere.
  • Answers call lights and responds appropriately.
  • Responsible for physical appearance of the nursing unit.
  • Performs Point of Care (POC) testing in accordance with written policies and procedures.
  • Check emergency equipment and supplies, maintains supply levels. Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment. Operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Other duties include obtaining, recording and reporting vital signs as directed, applying splints, cleaning and dressing wounds and any other treatments as indicated by protocols.
  • The RN will take preventative measures when delivering patient care in order to ensure personal and patient safety at all times.
  • Participate in mandatory in-services and continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by supervisor.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services, staff meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for ongoing education. Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Performs other duties as in-serviced,, POC testing, dressing changes and assisting physician with splint or cast application, etc.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Must be able to lift above 35 pounds, constant body movement, either walking, stooping, or lifting; operation of heavy machinery.
  • Involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Possible exposure to patient’s bloody/body fluids and/or infectious diseases.

EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse license within the state of Texas (must not have state sanctions or disciplinary restrictions).
  • Experience as Charge Nurse or other leadership role.
  • Current (AHA) BLS/ACLS/PALS Certification required, NRP preferred.
  • CEN or CPEN preferred.
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of emergency care.
  • Pass background check(s)‬ and drug screen.‬‬‬
  • Leadership capabilities are a must.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with three (3) years registered nurse experience within the last 48months, and a minimum of two (2) years of critical care or emergency nursing experience.

Shifts:

We will be 24 hour/7 days a week operation. 36 hours a week will be considered fulltime, 12-24 hours will be part time, and one 12-hour shift a week will be considered PRN. All PRN employees are required to work at least two shifts per month to maintain PRN status. Schedules will be generated every 6 weeks and employees will choose their assigned shifts based on availability.
