Purpose of Job
/To provide high quality recovery focused drug services to offenders within a prison setting and to contribute to the effective implementation of the new drug and alcohol strategy. To enhance effective liaison with relevant community agencies to achieve a continuity of throughcare.
Key Activities:
- To assertively engage with offenders who have substance misuse issues.
- To complete comprehensive assessments.
- Receive regular supervision in accordance with CRI policies
- Contribute towards facilitating offender access into external agencies in accordance with established care pathways.
- To ensure a clear pathway from prison to community based substance misuse services for all DART service users.
- Providing appropriate interventions that are structured, evidence based time limited for offenders accessing treatment/support services.
- Develop and review Recovery Plans in conjunction with other services.
- Ensure that all safeguarding issues, including child protection and protection of adults at risk, are dealt with in accordance to CRI policies and procedures, and local and national statutory requirements.
- Contribute to achieving all Key Performance Targets (KPT) that are set.
- To co-facilitate DART groupwork packages.

- In carrying out the above duties the post holder will:
- Work flexibly within the Reducing Reoffending pathways.
- Maintain a current knowledge of appropriate interventions for substance misusing offenders

- To ensure that policies and procedures are constantly adhered to.

Person Specification
Essential criteria:
- Experience of providing interventions to address problematic substance and alcohol misuse and / or reduce offending behaviour.
- A clear understanding of how to support service users to achieve lives free from drug and alcohol misuse.
- Commitment to reducing the rates of drug use within the prison service.
- Experience of facilitating groupwork
- Understanding group dynamics
- Demonstrate skills to undertake administrative duties.
- Maintain professional boundaries.
- Knowledge of issues facing service users, particularly in prison and on release.
And the ability to:
- Communicate confidently and effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Respond flexibly to the demands of the post.
- Work as a member of a team.
- Show a capacity to work alone and the ability to keep calm under pressure.
- Understand and have a commitment to the principles of equal opportunity and diversity.

Desirable criteria:
- Knowledge of local services and geography.
- Qualification(s) in Substance Misuse and/or relevant experience.
- Motivational Interviewing techniques.
- Knowledge of effective interventions that lead to reductions in drug related crime.
- Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, in particular that of a prison environment.
