Amite- According to District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux, on November 19, 2012, Quroy Johnson, age 22, was sentenced to 10 years with the department of corrections by Judge Elizabeth Wolfe for Attempted Aggravated Rape.
Originally charged with Aggravated Rape, Johnson, of Garner Street, Hammond, LA, was found guilty of the lesser charge in a bench trial before Judge Wolfe on October 25, 2012. Assistant District Attorney Le’Anne Malnar represented the State.
The 12-year-old victim’s mother contacted police in June 2008, stating that her daughter had been raped by two men, Malnar explained.
According to the prosecutor, the victim and another girl, age 13, were at Johnson’s home on the day of the assault. The 12-year-old victim claimed that 21-year-old Shelton Ray Abron, of Garner Street, Hammond, LA, allegedly forced himself on her, and Johnson attempted to do the same. Abron is charged with Aggravated Rape and has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Johnson stated that he did have consensual sex with the 13-year-old victim in the home that day, but denied any contact with the 12-year-old, said Malnar. “Through his own admission, the defendant placed himself at the scene,” she said.
At trial, forensic expert Lisa Ricci testified that two sets of DNA were found in the victim. “Quroy Johnson could not be excluded from that sample,” said Malnar. Dr. Yameika Head, who was employed at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans when the incident occurred, also testified to bruising and other signs of sexual assault discovered during the medical evaluation.
Although Judge Wolfe imposed the minimum sentence allowed under the law, Johnson must serve his sentence without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence, said Perrilloux.
