Additional Information from Mrs. Phillips:
Book Reports:
There is a slight change on the Book Report lexile criteria. The book’s lexile level must be 900 or higher, not the 1010 stated on the 1st book report. The students will change this on their form on Tuesday. This assignment is due September 19th so please get a book as soon as possible. There will be a book report each nine weeks. The late penalty for book reports is 25 points per day. They will always be due on a Tuesday and not accepted after that Friday. Be sure to not plagiarize (copy and paste from the internet) as this will result in a zero.
Vocabulary:
There will be three 20 word vocabulary units per nine weeks.
Day 1 (Fridays) Words are introduced. Beginning passages are read aloud together. On a sheet of notebook paper, or on the back of the definitions (will vary), write the 20 words and their synonyms and antonyms using the Vocabulary Workshop workbook (do not write in this book).
Day 2 (following Monday) Give two-sided homework sheet that is due on Thursday
Day 3 (Thursday) Collect HW
Day 4 (Friday) Review HW answers
Day 5 (Wednesday) The TEST
This is a 12 day cycle. Plenty of time to prepare for 20 word test. Students are strongly encouraged to utilize the tools offered on vocabularyworkshop.com such as pronunciation, flashcards, games, quizzes, graphic organizers, and root reference guides.
