Outlook Calendar: Fails to Retrieve Information For Some Meeting Participants

As you can see here, data for several persons was not retrievable when I tried to schedule a meeting with Outlook. They were, however, when I used the piratemail web interface.

Chris Holcomb kindly recommended several actions, but none of them helped. Chris was thinking the problem was on my PC (both of them, the laptop and the desktop), I was thinking it unlikely that the same problem would be on two computers, it must be on the server.

After sleeping on this, I started to wonder if the problem might be with my Contacts list, which is on the server. Sure enough, when I identified the meeting participants from the “ECU Faculty Staff” list rather than my Contacts list everything worked fine again.

I deleted these persons from my Contacts (within the Address Book) and went to the Faculty& Staff list and added them to my contacts list from there. I tried checking their schedules again, identifying them from my Contacts list. Their information is still not available.

Next I removed these users from my contacts list again, and then shut down Outlook, and then rebooted Outlook, went to the faculty and staff list, and added those persons back to my contacts list.

Curiously when I tried to do this, Outlook told me they are already in my contacts list, but when I look for them under contacts in my address book they are not there.

So I opened the Contacts folder – not the Address Book, the Contacts folder.

Son-of-a-Bee, the troublesome names are there, but without addresses. There are also there lots of other names (without addresses) that used to be in my address book but were deleted from the address book long ago – including one, just below Jack Brinn, who had been dead for several years.

I deleted each of these from the Contacts folder. Then I went to the address book, faculty and staff list, and added them to my contacts.

Problem solved:

Why all these names with no addresses appeared in my Contacts folder but not in my address book is still a mystery to me, but now I know I need to clean up the Contacts folder now and then.
