A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor of this Commonwealth's charitable health care providers.

WHEREAS, charitable health care providers render medical care to individuals without compensation or charge or the expectation of compensation or charge, and perform medical care without payment or reimbursement from any governmental agency or insurer; and

WHEREAS, access to high-quality health care services is a concern of all persons, particularly those residing in remote rural areas or inner cities; and

WHEREAS, physicians and health care providers have traditionally worked to assure access to health care services; and

WHEREAS, many health care providers from this Commonwealth and other states are willing to volunteer their services to address the health care needs of Kentuckians who may otherwise not be able to obtain health care services; and

WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the Commonwealth enacted the Kentucky Charitable Health Care Services Act in 1998; and

WHEREAS, the Cabinet for Health Services provides any available information to charitable health care providers relating to declared emergencies, underserved populations, and the lack of access to health care within this Commonwealth that will assist the rendering of health care services by charitable health care providers; and

WHEREAS, the Cabinet for Health Services makes information about registered charitable health care providers available to the Department of Insurance for the purpose of obtaining medical malpractice insurance; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Insurance provides medical malpractice insurance to a charitable health care provider who has registered with the Cabinet for Health Services; and

WHEREAS, there are currently eight registered charitable health care providers within this Commonwealth: Angels Community Clinic, Free Clinic of Owensboro, Grace Medical Clinic, St. Luke Free Clinic, St. Nicholas Family Clinic, Madison County Detention Center, St. Joseph Mobile Health Service, and Helping Hands Clinic;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives expresses its profound appreciation of the services offered by charitable health care providers, the Cabinet for Health Services, and the Department of Insurance.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor of this Commonwealth's charitable health care providers.

Section 3.
