One Year (Two Semesters)
B Ed Degree (RIMSE CBCS Scheme)
Choice Based Credit System
Title of the Courese
The Programme shall be called one year two semesters B Ed (RIMSE CBCS scheme) following Continuous Assessment and Grading Pattern (CAGP) leading to B Ed degree of University of Mysore (UOM). This is equivalent to Honours Degree. RIMSE CBCS stands for Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education Choice Based Credit System.
Duration of the Courese
The Course shall be for a period of one academic year comprising two semesters of 40 weeks (216 days). First semester shall comprise 20 weeks (about 108 days) and second semester shall comprise 20 weeks (about 108 days) including admissions, conduction of teaching-learning processes in terms of lecture, tutorial, practice teaching, in-house activities and term-end assessment. The institution shall have a liberty to alter the duration of either I or II Semester depending on the requirements without altering the total duration of 40 weeks (216 days).
Objectives of the Courese
The Bachelor of Education degree programme (RIMSE CBCS Scheme) is primarily designed to prepare efficient and committed secondary school teachers with special training in moral and spiritual education. The Course is aimed at helping aspiring student teachers develop competencies and values in the context of changing educational needs and understand effectively his role as a teacher. The whole scheme is geared to realize the following objectives:
To understand and analyze the essential principles and values of education.
To understand the system and practices of education in our country.
To understand the nature and problems of secondary school students.
To develop Value sensitivities.
To train in planning, executing and evaluation processes of teaching.
To develop a spirit of patriotism, professionalism, experimentation and scientific temper.
To create an awareness on importance of teacher in educational reconstruction and reforms
To develop adequate competencies in school subjects.
To build human capital by learning across disciplines
To provide learner centered approaches in terms of pedagogies
To ensure high quality in teaching and learning process
To ensure transparency in evaluation
To make learners as knowledge practitioners
To make things happen by encouraging students endowed with talents to acquire skills.
To reinforce assimilation & creative utilization of information while solving problems in day to day life
To reduce the stress of students at the term-end examination
Existing B.Ed.Course
The existing two semester RIMSE Scheme shall cease to exist once the CBCS RIMSE scheme is approved. If the approval is given after the beginning of the existing course, the CBCS RIMSE scheme shall come in to force from the succeeding academic year. However, even if the CBCS RIMSE scheme is implemented during one academic year that academic year shall also have examinations in the discontinued course (Two Semester RIMSE Scheme) for the benefit of failed students or students those who were not appeared for the examinations.
Eligibility for Admission
a)Graduates from any University in Karnataka or any other University of India recognized as equivalent to it obtaining 50% of marks in aggregate of all the subjects studied in 3 years are eligible for admission to B Ed Degree Prgramme (RIMSE CBCS scheme). In the case of SC, ST, Category - I and Physically Handicapped, minimum marks for eligibility shall be 45% in the aggregate of 3 years of their course. However, the institute shall adhere to the order of the University of Mysore in force in respect of minimum marks for eligibility for admission to B Ed Degree Programme (RIMSE CBCS scheme).
b)He has studied one of the following subject (appropriatesubject or paper titles) as optional or Major for all the three years:Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Sericulture, Mathematics, Statistics, History, Political Science, Sociology, Geography, Economics, English, Public Administration, Education, Journalism, Environmental Studies, Computer Science/Application, Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, Arabic, Marathi, functional English or any regional language.
c)Candidates who have passed Kannada Pandit / Urdu Munshi / Hindi Vidwan / Sanskrit Vidwat or any other equivalent Examination conducted by the competent authority constituted by any State Government of India / Union Territories / Central Government Bodies are eligible for admission to B Ed Programme.
Regulation 2
Selection Criteria
The Institute shall select candidates based on the conditions in regulation 1, and their performance in the entrance test and interview conducted by the Institute. The merit of candidates shall be determined as follows:
a)50% weightage for the qualifying degree marks
b)25% weightage for marks in the entrance test
c)25% weightage for marks in the interview
The total of a, b and c shall determine the merit of the candidate for admission to the B Ed Programme.
Regulation 3
In Take
The Institute shall adhere to the Government of Karnataka orders in force in respect of the total intake of students and the ratio of Arts and Science students. The students’ ratio between Arts and Science disciplines shall be generally 50:50. However if the sufficient number of students are not available in a particular discipline, the ratio shall be adjusted to accommodate more number of students in any discipline,since the selection to the course is on all India basis, the Institute shall adhere to the Government of India policy in force as far as reservation of seats to SC, ST and OBC are concerned.
Regulation 4
Calendar of Events
The Institute shall prepare the calendar of events every year giving the dates for the commencement ofthe new academic year, practice teaching, mid-term vacation, practical examination and University Semester examinations, subject to the approval of the University of Mysore.
Regulation 5
Choice Based Credit System ( CBCS)
The Programme is said to be Choice Based because the student shall opt the combination of his choice in soft core paper, core and school subject related elective paper and open self study paper. 1 hour of lecture (class) per week per paper amounts to 1 credit per semester. 2 hours of tutorial / activities / practical component per week per paper amounts to 1 credit per semester.
Regulation 6
Courses of study
A student, who registers for B.Ed. degree Programme RIMSE CBCS scheme, shall study four hard core papers, two RIMSE special hard core papers, four soft core papers, two elective papers or one elective paper and one term work. He shall expose to three teaching competency – skill practice components of core papers. He shall also study two papers in concurrent Add on – Graduate Diploma in Values Education. He shall study all these papers in two semesters in normal pace and in 4 semesters in slow pace.
Guidelines
a) Details of Courses:
- A paper to be compulsorily studied by a student as a Programme requirement to complete a degree is called a core paper.
- RIMSE is the special institution offering MSE from the past 35 years. Therefore it provides two special core papers for students. These are called RIMSE Special Hard Core Papers (RSHCP).
- As a Programme requirement, four core papers are proposed. They are called Hard Core Papers (HCP).
- RIMSE provides an option for the student to choose two papers from a pool of papers from school related disciplines. These are called Soft Core Papers (SCP).
- RIMSE provides another option to student to choose a paper in One semester from a pool of papers which may be very specific or specialized or advanced or supportive to the disciplines of study. It is called Elective Paper (EP).
- As Programme requirement practical work and activities (Micro teaching, lesson plan, lesson observation, practice teaching, unit test, unit plan, test materials, teaching aids, diagnostic tests, criticism lesson, seminar etc.) of the courses of study are included under Teaching Competency-Skill Practice (TC-SP). This is treated as practical component.
- A special paper where student carries out the application of knowledge in creativity, a mini project work is proposed by RIMSE. It is called Term Work (TW).It may be given as an option for students in lieu of EP in one semester
- One more choice is given to students to opt for Open Self Study Paper (OSSP).This is optional.

He shall be present in the campus for minimum of two weeks spread over over in a semester or in two semesters in RIMSE to complete the course.

d) Course structure
Every course shall be self contained complete module having four units covering the content of the course and remain invariant for a long period. Therefore broad outline of content shall be reflected in each unit. The teacher shall have the freedom to design the detailed contents within the timeframe prescribed for the units in each course.
Regulation 7
Attendance
Students are said to have completed the Programme of Bachelor of Education if he has put in attendance of minimum of 80% of the total number classes conducted in each semester in each paper. Condonation of shortage of attendance or minimum percentage of attendance shall be as per the university regulations in force.
Regulation 8
Open Self Study Elective Paper (OSSEP)
Student shall opt an elective paper which is not announced by the Institute earlier, may be given to such student as open self study Elective Paper and the Institution shall have the freedom to prepare the syllabus and evaluate the paper. This shall be under the discretion of the Institution. The new code number shall be given to such papers and these are in lieu of EP.
Regulation 9
Mode of trasaction
a)Theory component shall be trasacted thorough lectures.
b)Tutorial and practical components shall be trasacted through small group discussions,
seminars, quizes, debates,visits and reports, paper presentations, assignments, field work, tests, value clarifications, solving dilemmas etc.
Regulation 10
Continuous assessment
a)The assessment shall be continuous, tutorial / activities/ practical components/ tests are assessed before the end of 9th week, 18th week, 20th or 22nd week (depending on the length of the semester) and nomenclatured as C1, C2 and C3, respectively. C3 shall be the term-end assessment for theory components, assessed as per Regulation 10 of RIMSE approved by University of Mysore. Practical components shall be assessed as per the guidelines given under this regulation.
b)Every practical / tutorial class / activity should be assessed in the presence of students. One assessment per unit per candidate for 25 marks in each paper has to be recorded by a teacher in these sessions. The assessment for 25 marks has to be recorded and announced at the end of 9th week and another assessment for 25 marks at the end of 18th week of each semester.

c)Teaching Competency Skill Practice (TCSP) components are assessed in the presence of students as part of C1 and C2 in RHSP and SCP.
Note: A candidate has to score minimum of 40% i.e. 20 out of 50 in component I & II put together to appear for III component. Otherwise, such a candidate is said to have dropped the paper. The candidate gets eligibility to take the III component, only after scoring the minimum criterion in component I & II together i.e. 20 out of 50 plus minimum of 80% of attendance in that semester.
Guidelines
a)Tutorial / activities / practical components shall be assessed by considering self evaluation by the student (20%), Peer evaluation (30%) and Teachers evaluation (50%). The average of all these evaluations and evaluation in TCSP shall be announced to the student before finalising the evaluation in C3
b)The assessment for 25 marks shall be done by the following several techniques such as tests, assignment, practical, discussions, paper presentation, seminars / colloquiums, brain storm sessions, value clarifications and enacting of roles.
Practical activities
a)Practice Teaching related activities shall constitute TC-SP
b)Each student shall practice minimum of 5 teaching skills during the micro teaching program organized by the institute in a period of about 2½ weeks or spread over program or combination of both.
c)Each student shall practice teaching lessons in a secondary school (state, CBSC or ICSE) in a block period of about 8 weeks or as spread over program or a combination of both methodologies and MSE.
d) The students shall be exposed to 2 demonstration lessons each in 3 subjects before they are sent to practice teaching programme.
e)Each student shall plan and execute not less than 15 lessons in each methodology and 15 lessons in MSE (2 remedial lessons+12 regular lessons+1 criticism lesson). Not less than 5 lessons in each practice teaching subjects including criticism lessons may be fully supervised by teacher educator.
f)Each student shall observe a minimum of 60 lessons (20+20+20) during practice teachings and must attend the feedback - discussions sessions at the end of classroom teaching / day. Each student has to maintain proper records of observations.
g)Each student shall prepare and submit a minimum of two teaching aids and assignments with regard to test items (minimum of 60 objective type items with minimum 5 different categories), unit test and diagnostic test in each practice teaching subject.
Regulation 11
Term-end assessment for theory component ( C3 )
a)Duration of term-end assessment for theory component is one and half an hour and for viva voce component is maximum of half an hour.
b)Maximum marks for theory component is 40 and for viva voce 10
c)Question papers shall be set by the teacher teaching the paper in collaboration with the members of Board of Examiners (BOE) mentioned below.
d)Questions shall belong to the categories of understanding, application, analysis, synthesis, evaluation, skill etc., No factual or knowledge type questions shall be asked.
The following are the Board of Examiners (BOE) suggested by the Institute.

e)Viva voce board shall comprise of four members from sister Institutions recognized by University of Mysore for HCP, members of faculty of RIMSE (those who teach methods) for SCP and one member from the Post Graduation department for TW (in case students opt for TW).
f)Four or five boards shall function simultaneously. (Two boards for HCP and Two boards for SCP and one board for TW, if required).
g)Each student shall appear before two or three Viva Voce boards, immediately after theory paper examinations are completed
h) Theory examinations shall be exclusively conducted for four consecutive days and Viva Voce will be organized in two or three consecutive days.
i)The teacher teaching the subject in the institution shall allow the student to undergo improvement assessments in (C1 + C2) and C3 before issuing tentative or provisional Grade cards. However, students who undergo such re-assessments have to pay extra fee prescribed by the University of Mysore and by the Institution.
j) Central valuation of the component C3 is organized by the University of Mysore. The chairperson or the superintendent of examination will formulate the Review Committee for each course, subject to the approval of the University of Mysore. Review committee in each course shall comprise two senior / experienced teachers teaching or who have taught the course.
