Elvis Presley Essay
It’s a happy day when a child is born! Elvis Presley was born on January 8th 1935. He was born in Tupelo Mississippi. Many people didn’t know he had an older brother. His older brother died a few seconds after he was born. It was a very sad, but happy day. Elvis’s home town is Memphis Tennessee. Elvis might not have gone to college, but he was drafted into the US Army. He married Priscilla Beaulieu. They had one kid, it was a girl. Her name was Lisa Marie Presley.
Elvis had many career milestones.Elvis made music like no one else had heard. It was a combination of funk and rock. He sold millions of albums. In the early 1970’s Elvis had a huge comeback. He came back and did over 900 concerts from 1970 to 1977. In 1970 Elvis demanded a meeting with President Nixon, and sure enough he got one right away. Elvis and his wife got divorced soon after that. On June 16, 1977, Elvis played his last concert. On August 16, 1977 Elvis sadly dies. His body was found in a bath tub. Everyone will remember him as the King of music. Elvis won 3 Grammys for his songs, one Grammy for each song. A Grammy is a music award. You get one if you have a huge hit song, a song that is number one on the charts. Elvis made hundreds of movies, TV specials, and millions of songs.
Many famous people face obstacles in their life. Elvis faced many obstacles before becoming famous. His parents were very poor. They moved so much that they almost never stayed for a year in the same place. Elvis didn’t get his first guitar until he was 11. Elvis’s childhood was amazing, but horribly at some times. Elvis was a very shy person, and in fact was still a little shy when he was about to go on stage. Elvis loves going to Sun Studios. Sun Studios is a recording station. Some discrimination Elvis faced was at Sun Studios. The first time he started to sing at Sun Studios, they didn’t like his voice. So they asked him to play a lot of different type of music. Sun Studios didn’t think that Elvis would become a famous singer. Elvis’s parents believed in him though. Elvis was brave. Even when people said that he wasn’t good enough, all he did was try harder. Elvis rose to the occasion because he made music like no one heard before. People across the world loved him. His house (Graceland) is huge, and a huge attraction right now. He made that money by having thousands of concerts, and thousands of movies that he had so much of that you wouldn’t be able to count them all. Elvis was always a shy kid, but he loved music. He loved his guitar too.Some people said he wasn’t good enough. Elvis surely proved them wrong. Elvis always loved to sing and play his guitar. The things that lead him from childhood to singing on stage were his love of singing, and playing guitar.
One thing about Elvis is that he has so many interesting facts about him. One interesting fact about Elvis is that in 1970 Elvis met the President, Richard Nixon. The day they met was December 21, 1970. They met in Mr. Nixon’s oval office. Anotherinteresting fact about Elvis is that he was enlisted in the U.S. army. Luckily for him the county wasn’t at war during that time, so Elvis didn’t have to fight. That’s great that he didn’t go to war and possibly be killed. A third interesting fact about Elvis is his house, Graceland. Elvis called his house Graceland because it had so many awesome exhibits. It had guitars, cars, pools, and many, many, more exhibits.In the 70’s that was a lot of money for that time period, that just shows how rich Elvis was.
Many famous people have quotes, Elvis has many quotes. This is just one very famous one by him. His famous quote is “Thank you, thank you very much”. Elvis does this famous quote at concerts. Elvis would always say “Thank you, thank you very much.” That’s Elvis’s famous quote! This was one famous quote by Elvis because the fans loved his saying. His fans just went nuts when he said his famous quote.
You might be wondering why I chose Elvis. I chose him because I love music. If it weren’t for Elvis, some singers might not sound the way they do now. There might be only a few types of music and somebody else would have changed music as we know it. Elvis might not have inspired me, but he inspired many other artists. They changed their music a little and tried to step up their game. Elvis represents the 1970’s because he sold many concert tickets. He had many concerts in the 1970’s too. Almost every concert he had was sold out. He preformed over 900 concerts from 1970 to 1977. That’s a lot of concerts for someone to have.
Elvis had many controversies, and many at the beginning of his life. That was when he wasn’t famous. Not a lot of people liked his singing. Something Elvis did that got attention was his famous hip swing. He swung his hips in a circle, the audience loved when he did this. Another thing Elvis did that raised eyebrows are he took lots of drugs, drugs that help you go to sleep. Another drug he did is to help him stay awake. Before I read about this I didn’t know he took drugs. This changed what I thought about him. It changed what I thought about him because I don’t like people who do drugs.
Elvis was a true representative for the 1970’s. He’s a representative because he had many concerts in the 70’s. In the 1970’s Elvis had a huge comeback. He had a countless number of concerts. He sold a countless number of tickets too, probably in the hundred thousand. All his concerts in the 70’s must have been sold out, or almost soldout. Beside Elvis in the 1970’s this decade was very historical. There were three presidents in the 1970’s. The first president was Richard Nixon (1969 -1974, 37th president). Richard Nixon had to resign the second time for doing something illegal. The second president was Gerald Ford (1974 – 1977, 38th president). The last president in the 1970’s was Jimmy Carter (1977-1981, 39th president). The winner of the 1970 super bowl was Baltimore. Did you know that the first Earth day was in 1970? It changed the nation for the better. In this decade Star Wars was put on the big screen for the first time. This means Star Wars was put in the movie theater for the first time.
