Job DescriptionOverall Purpose
To transport patients to and from the Hospice driving in a professional manner at all times with an awareness of those being transported.
Delivery & Collection of prescriptions from the Hospital.
Provide minor maintenance duties to the Hospice buildings, including shops and Hospice gardens and grounds.
Encourage, promote and be part of a positive team culture through teamwork, attitude and open communication.
Complete daily/Weekly checks as per checklist.

Accountable to Facilities Manager
Reports to the Support Services Supervisor
Key Result Areas/ Responsibilities
· Transport of patients, equipment etc as directed. Complete daily log of use of Hospice vehicles on every trip. Ensure all vehicles are clean and roadworthy.
· Treat patients/carers in a friendly and courteous manner, respecting their dignity and cultural and religious beliefs.
· Assist with receipt and delivery of goods as required.
· In conjunction with Housekeeping Supervisor carry out the Fire Alarm testing.
· Assist with the movement of furniture, equipment and patient records as required in maintaining Hospice activity.
· Comply with Health and Safety at Work Act, maintaining a safe working environment at all times.
· Undertake any minor maintenance as requested by Facilities Manager/Support Services supervisor or others given authority to do so by the above.
· Take out refuge sacks to external bins and keep the compound tidy. Flatten boxes from all areas to create room in the cardboard skip
· To liaise with on-site Maintenance Operative regarding a stock of relevant light bulbs and replace broken bulbs as and when required.
· Assist with keeping the Hospice gardens and car park well maintained and tidy with assistance, at times, from the Hospice gardening volunteer team.
· Adopt a polite and professional manner at all times
· Maintain confidentiality of patients/carers and the service at all times, even when not on duty.
· Adhere to Trust Policies and Procedures.
· Create and maintain positive communications to ensure effective working relationships with individuals, teams and colleagues both within and outside the service.
· Participate in training and development designed to develop oneself and others in the job role.
Physical, Mental and Emotional Efforts required to fulfil the Role :
Physical:
Required to exert moderate physical effort for varying periods throughout the day as described in the responsibilities above.
Assisting patients in and out of their own homes and in and out of the mini – bus.
Driving the mini – bus, some times travelling alone but a great deal of the time with the responsibility for patients and escorts travelling with him.
Mental effort:
Required to concentrate fully when driving.
Frequently unpredictable work pattern, due to interruptions and multiple demands on time.
Awareness of self and other safety at all times
Emotional effort:
Exposure to distressing circumstances, both within the patients’ home and within the Hospice.
Working conditions:
Daily exposure to body fluids (vomit, urine, faeces, blood ). Occasional contact with infections eg MRSA
Travelling alone but also travelling with the responsibility for specialist palliative care patients and their escorts.
General:
The post holder will support the Facilities & Support teams), as required, across the range of his/her duties as appropriate within the grading of this post. In the context of rapid and ongoing change the above responsibilities represent the current priorities and requirements for the post. These priorities will develop and evolve over time. Any significant changes however would be the subject of full consultation with the post holder.

All staff must support the infection control programme by promoting and maintaining a clean, safe environment, assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of policies and following all the principles contained within the Health and Social Care Act 2008: code of practice for the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections.”
