New product highlights for wood machining from Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT

Ground-breaking initiative for innovations starting with LIGNA 2017

CERATIZIT S.A., Mamer, Luxembourg (headquarters), 23 May 2017.

LIGNA 2017 for CERATIZIT marks the start of a ground-breaking innovation initiative in the field of wood machining. The competence brand Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT will be presenting the following new products in Hanover: CeraShield, the coated knife for solid wood machining, the KCR18+ grade for saw tips, knives and rectangular strips and the new 7° angle strobe blanks. All these innovations mean that the customer can benefit from higher performance, so making a significant contribution to increased economic efficiency in production.

CERATIZIT, a market leader in the field of carbide products for the wood industry, will be talking about its current innovation initiative at LIGNA 2017 in Hall 27, Stand C38. “We see it as our responsibility to keep on improving the competitiveness of our customers’ products,” says Dr Rolf Kösters, head of the Wood and Stone business unit. The products marking the start of the innovation initiative are in his view an outstanding illustration of this. A particular highlight is the coated CeraShield knife for the machining of solid wood.

CeraShield – a premium solution for solid wood machining

CeraShield achieves ideal performance in both softwood and hardwood machining. The new knives are characterised by a particularly long-lasting cutting edge. This results from a combined coating and grinding process which minimises wear on the cutting surface. Customers benefit from minimised downtime, and thanks to the high surface quality further processing is easy. “Even compared to the standard product (our grade KCR08 uncoated knives, for example), these premium knives increase the tool life by a factor of 10,” says Dr Michael Magin, head of Developmentfor Wood and Stone Machining. The innovative knives are compatible with existing tooling systems, and can be supplied from stock on a just-in-time basis.

KCR18+ for saw tips, knives and rectangular strips

Like all KCR grades, the new KCR18+ grade from Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT is based on a specific metallurgical structure. The enhanced protection against corrosion and oxidation ensures a high degree of process reliability. An improved ratio of hardness to fracture toughness guarantees higher performance potential. Saw tips in KCR18+ achieve very good results in the machining of primary wood. KCR18+ knives have been specially developed for the production of window tools. They guarantee long tool life and optimal surface quality. Rectangular strips made of KCR 18+ are available with brazing grooves. Whether planing or profiling, our grade range offers solutions for every application.

Optimised product geometry for more economic efficiency

More economic efficiency is also provided by the new strobe blanks with a 7° angle on both sides. These enable you to reduce material costs and grinding times, resulting in optimised manufacturing processes in tool production generally. Like the other strobe blanks, the new geometry is also available in the universal grade CTOPP10.

Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT: good prospects for the
Wood Machining business unit

The Wood Machining business unit at Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT is growing above average in a dynamic market. Dr Rolf Kösters, head of the Wood and Stone business unit comments: “Our strategy of standing out in this highly competitive market through innovative strength and development partnerships with our customers is proving successful. In recent quarters we have witnessed a double-digit growth rate.” Quite apart from the present innovation initiative, it is important in his view to adapt to the structural needs of the market.

Central warehouse for carbide wood machining products moves

This has been confirmed by Thierry Wolter, Member of the Executive Board of the CERATIZIT Group: “We believe in a further growth potential in the wood industry. As a corporate group we are doing all we can in a proactive way to encourage this development to the benefit of our customers.” With a view to an optimised logistics chain, the central warehouse for wood machining products is now being transferred to the logistics centre of the CERATIZIT Group in Kempten, Germany. The highly automated dispatch department ensures that stock articles ordered online via the E-Techstore by 7:00 pm can be delivered the next day anywhere in Europe.
