Staff are advised to bring a copy of their learn-pro certificate with them when they attend a manual handling update but E-learning will not allow staff to renew their theory until 18 months have past, therefore they are only able to bring their certificate from the last time they completed their e-learning training. / LF to discuss potential change to e-learning lapse and expiry times with Jackie Ballantyne. / LF / LF discussed the feasibility of changing e-learning time limits for expiry of the manual handling e-learning certificates but the proposed changes are apparently not feasible so e-learning time limits for manual handling will remain the same. Where staff attend manual handling practical training but 18 months has not lapsed since they last completed their e-learning training, they should present their existing certificate for their e-learning and should renew their e-learning training at 18 months. / Staff to be advised to present their existing e-learning certificate at manual handling classroom updates if it is too early for them to update their e-learning training and should update their e-learning at 18 months from initial completion. / 31/08/14 / Yes

3. / Bariatric Equipment Storage area
There have been problems with the 3 bariatric beds;ArjoHuntleigh Contura 1080’s going missing in VHK. The beds are moved between departments but staff do not inform the manual handling department when they are moved so when they are required, no one within the manual handling department knows where they are. A significant amount of time is wasted as the manual handling team have to try to locate the beds. / Passes to be attached to the beds so that these can be swiped when the bed enters a new ward. The process for the loan of bariatric equipment to be adjusted to incorporate this. / LF / The bariatric beds are out in the wards in use at the moment so have not been tagged as yet. / Passes to be attached to the bariatric beds once they are returned tothe bariatric equipment store. LF raised the issue that there is not a bariatric wheelchair available for loan within the bariatric equipment store at VHK. It is expensive to hire a bariatric wheelchair, since there is a delivery charge and a minimum rental period. The steering group agreed that the purchase of a bariatric wheelchair should be pursued. / LF was advised by the steering group to contact Morag Gardner to advise the purchase of a bariatric wheelchair and to pursue whether ‘friends of VictoriaHospital’ would consider its purchase. / LF / LF to write to Morag Gardner advising the purchase of a bariatric wheelchair. 7. / Manual handling advice new builds/equipment
There were manual handling concerns over the opening of the changing places toilet at VHK. / A risk assessment was completed and reviewed and this addressed the manual handling issues identified. Actions from the risk assessment were to be implemented. / LF / All actions from the manual handling risk assessment have now been implemented and the changing places toilet is now open. / The changing places toilet is now open and no further work requires to be undertaken by the manual handling team. / 06/08/14 / Yes

Ritchie Watters made the group aware of potential problems with the redesign of ward 7 QMH. He is concerned that the fire doors may close automatically in the event of the fire alarm going off and that if a patient is in the way, they may be injured. / LF to contact the fire officer, Iain Kelly for clarification. / LF / LF has emailed Iain Kelly regarding this issue and awaits a response. / LF to inform the steering group of the outcome. / 27/08/14 / No
