What’s it about?
You’re at a union event or conference and want to take some pictures or record and share a short video interview. But your pictures come out too dark for your branch newsletter and your video is too shaky to be much use on Facebook. Know the feeling?
This hands on workshop will give participants the basic skills and confidence to take better pictures and shoot simple smartphone video that looks good and makes an impact. You’ll also learn how to share your images and video with others, via social media.
So bring your iPhone, iPad or Android smartphone/tablet, point, shoot and share!
Who’s it for?
Union professional officers, union reps, branch officials, health and safety reps, union learning reps, equality reps and any other union activists who would like to develop their smartphone communication skills. No previous experience of photography or video is required.
What will I learn?
By the end of the day, you will...
- Learn the ABC of better photography – a simple approach that will help you capture good images you can use anywhere
- Edit and enhance your photos using easy-to-use free apps
- Archive images to save your mobile memory, share images with colleagues and publish images on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter
- Learn how to approach video interviews, including interview and location tips
- Shoot simple video interviews, using professional principles of lighting, background, shot composition and sound
- Edit an interview clip and upload to social media platforms like YouTube and Twitter
What will I need to bring?
You will need to bring an iPhone, iPad or iPad Mini or an Android mobile device. There will be a couple of (free) apps to download prior to the workshop. Please also bring any chargers for your device(s) with you to the course.
