- Students will proceed quietly from the dressing area to their team’s assigned area and be seated facing center court, ready for further instructions. Upon my “break” command, students will clap and rise to the ready position.
- Directions: Students will stand front to back in a single file line within their respective groups. Each student will place their left hand on the shoulder of the student in front of them. The last student in line, the “tail”, will be given a mesh bag. Once I give the command to begin, the “head” will lead his team around the gym floor picking up various objects and passing them over his right shoulder to the person behind him who will then pass the object to the next person until the object reaches the “tail”. The “tail” puts the object in the mesh bag. Teams must stay together at all times. Once I give the command to stop, teams will return to their respective area and count the number of objects they have picked up.(Chavez, 2003)

- Introduction(2 minutes)
- Students will be seated in their assigned areas, facing center court
- “How many of you have ever seen the movie Predator?”
- “Back in the late 60’s, a kid about your age by the name of Joel Silver invented a sport called Ultimate Frisbee. Joel Silver later went on to produce the move the Predator as well as many other famous films.”
- “Today we are going to modify the game of Ultimate Frisbee to be played with a basketball instead of a disc.”
- Lesson focus(20 minutes)
- Instruction (cue words & details) The teacher will pair the students into teams of seven, designating which teams will go first. The teacher will then discuss the rules of the game followed by a live “Last Team Standing” tournament.
- The playing area- The playing area consists of the entire basketball court, with end zones designated on each end of the court.
- Beginning play- A coin toss will determine offense and defense for the first game. The teams will line up in a straight line along their goal line, and the Defense will throw the ball towards the offensive side of the court.
- Scoring- Each time the offense successfully passes the ball to a team member in the defending team’s end zone, a point is awarded.
- Advancing the ball- The most important rule is that players cannot run. The ball is advanced by players passing the ball to a teammate. No dribbling is allowed. Only chest passes, passes using two hands and beginning at the chest, are allowed. The person with the ball is the thrower and has ten seconds to throw the ball. The defending player verbally counts the stall count.
- Change of possession- If the ball is blocked, thrown out of bounds, dropped, or stalled, possession of the ball goes to the opposing team.
- Non-contact- There is to be no physical contact between the offensive and defensive teams. If contact occurs, a foul is assessed.
- Fouls- If a foul is committed, play resumes as it did before the infraction.
- Referees- There are no referees in this game. Students are to referee themselves and resolve their own disputes.
- Spirit of the Game- Sportsmanship and fair play are expected to be adhered to at all times.
- Last Team Standing- The first team to score wins. The losing team will then be replaced by the next team until all teams have had a turn.
- Modeling Steps
- I say, I do
- You say, I do
- We say, We do
- You say, You do
- Drill 1 (3 minutes): “When I say go, each team needs to form a circle and pass the ball back and forth among team members.
- CUE: Make sure students are passing from the chest
- Drill 2 (3 minutes): “When I say go, each team will form a straight line to practice defending the ball. One team member will take possession of the ball and proceed down the line with the ball. The other team members will practice defending. When the ball carrier gets to the end of the line, he gives the ball to the last person in line who then proceeds to the beginning of the line and repeats the drill.
- CUE: Remember that no physical contact is allowed
