Mental Health Professionals’ Network (MHPN)
TheDepartmentofHealthisfundingtheMHPNtodevelopprofession specificmaterialandactivitiesincludingwebinars tosupporttheprovisionofqualitymentalhealth care.TheMHPNalsofacilitatesmultidisciplinary,inter-professionalnetworkstosupportthedeliveryofprimarymentalhealthcare at thelocallevel.The coordinatedcaremodel isvitalforthemanagementof,andimprovedoutcomesfor,thosewithcomplexconditions,includingmentalillness.Thenetworkingmodelassistsclinicianstogainabetterunderstandingoftheserviceprovidersavailableintheirregionandenhancestheirprofessionaldevelopmentbysharingskillsandexpertisewithother clinicians.
GeneralPracticeMentalHealthStandardsCollaboration(GPMHSC)
TheGPMHSCisresponsibleforestablishingstandards of educationandtrainingfortheBetterAccesstoPsychiatrists,PsychologistsandGeneralPractitionersthroughtheMedicareBenefitsSchedule(BetterAccess)initiative.TheCollaborationpromotesdevelopmentanduptakeofqualityprofessionaldevelopmentinmentalhealthforGPstoeffectivelymanagetheclinicalcareofpatientswithmentalillnessinaprimarycaresettingand preventescalation ofapatient’scondition,orfuture high costinterventionssuchashospitalisation.CompletionofGPMHSCaccredited focussedpsychologicalskillstrainingallowsGPsto accessspecificmentalhealthitemsundertheMedicareBenefitsScheduleinrelationtotheBetterAccessinitiative.
TheGPMHSCmaintainsaregisterofGPswhocompletementalhealthtraining,andnotifiesMedicareAustraliaofthoseGPswho completethetraining in ordertoclaimrelevantMedicareitems.

Chronic disease self-management training: Behavioural interventions
Thisfirstcoursein chronicdiseaseself-managementtraininghasbeendesignedforhealthprofessionalsworkingwith clientssufferingfromachronicdisease.ThecoursewasoriginallydevelopedbytheAustralianPsychologicalSocietywithfundingfromtheCommonwealthGovernmentDepartmentofHealthandAgeing.Inadditionto anintroductiontothetopicofchronicdiseaseself-management,thecoursecoversfourmodulesthataddresstheinterdisciplinarycollaborativemodelofcare,communicationskills,motivationalinterviewinggoalsettingandtechniques,andpsychosocialimpactsofchronicdisease.Thiscourseprovidestheopportunitytocomplete CPD online attheindividualproviders’pace,intheirown time and,for APSmembers,provides8hoursofCPD.
