PHOTOSHOP NOTES 1-20

1. Marquee Tools – make rectangular, elliptical, single row, and single column selections.

2. Move Tool – lets you drag selections, layers, and guides to anew location in the image.

3. Lasso Tools- makes freehand, polygonal, and magnetic selections.

4. Magic Wand Tool – selects similarly colored areas

5. Crop Tool – Trims the images- the process of removing portions from an image. Helps to create a focus or strengthen the image.

6. Slice Tool – used to create slices or cut out an image into slices. These are used when designing web pages.

7. Healing Brush – lets you correct imperfections in an image, they virtually disappear. Paints with sampled pixels from the image.

8. Patch Tool – Lets you repair a selected area with pixels from another area, and is very similar to the healing brush.

9. BRUSH TOOL - paints soft, freehand brush strokes. Use the tool options bar for different brushes.

10. PENCIL TOOL - draws hard edged freehand strokes.

11.CLONE STAMP TOOL - takes a sample of an image that can then be applied over another image as part of the same image. Each stroke of the tool paints more of the sample.

12. PATTERN STAMP TOOL - paints with part of an image or pattern. Select the pattern from the pattern libraries or create your own pattern.

13. History Brush Tool - Paints a copy of the selected state or snapshot into the current image window. This tool restores an image to its last saved version.

14. Art History Brush Tool - paints with stylized strokes to simulate the look of different paint styles, using a selected state or snapshot.

15. Magic Eraser Tool - erases solid color areas to transparency with a single click. When you click in a layer with the magic eraser tool, the tool automatically changes all of the similar pixels.

16. Eraser Tool -erases pixels and restores part of an image to a previously saved state. If working in a locked layer, the tool erases to the background color. If working in an unlocked layer, erases to transparency.

17. Background Eraser Tool - lets you erase pixels on a layer to transparency as you drag through them. It allows you to erase the background while maintaining the edges of an object in the foreground.

18. Gradient Tool - creates straight-line, radial, angle, reflected, and diamond blends between colors. You can use preset or create your own.

19. Paint Bucket Tool - Fills similarly colored areas with the foreground color.

20. Blur Tool - Softens hard edges to decrease clarity or focus.

21. Sharpen Tool – Focuses soft edges or areas in an image to increase detail.

22. Smudge Tool – Smudges data in an image. Simulates the action of dragging a finger through wet paint. Pushes color in the direction that you drag.

23. Dodge Tool – lightens areas of an image – Holds back light, makes things lighter.

24. Burn Tool – darkens areas of an image – Increases exposure,; makes things darker.

25. Sponge Tool - changes the color saturation of an area.

26. PEN TOOLS - Draw smooth edged paths.

27. TYPE TOOLS - Horizontal and Vertical Type Tools create type on an image.

28. TYPE MASK TOOLS - Both Horizontal and Vertical Type Masks create a selection in the shape of type.

29. PATH SELECTION TOOLS - make shape or segment selections showing anchor points, direction lines, and direction points.

30. SHAPE & LINE TOOLS - draw shapes and lines in a normal or shape layer.

31. CUSTOM SHAPE TOOL - makes customized shapes selected from the custom shape list.

32. ANNOTATIONS TOOL - make notes and audio annotations that can be attached to an image.

33. RULER TOOL - measures distances, locations, and angles.

34. COLOR SAMPLER TOOL - samples up to four areas of the image.

35. EYEDROPPER TOOL - samples colors in an image.

36. HAND TOOL - moves an image within its window.

37. ZOOM TOOL - magnifies and reduces the view of an image.
