The Best of Japanese female rapper

comes to Hanoi and Hoian

The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, in cooperation with CAMA, will bring a famous female Japanese rapper COMA-CHI to Hanoi on Thursday 23 August and to Hoian to participate in Hoian - Japan Festival 2012 on Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 August.

COMA-CHI hit the music scene in 2003, building her reputation through performances in Tokyo and participation in MC Battles. She gained notoriety for her freestyle street rapping and for regularly showing the boys how it’s done on the sidewalk.

It didn’t take long for COMA-CHI to blow up and in 2006, she released her first solo album Day Before Blue. Featuring solid rhyming, and a telling influence from 90s hip hop, the album commanded attention, and got it from the Japanese music charts in its first week of release. In 2007, COMA-CHI’s efforts were recognized by Blast Magazine, who listed her as one of the Ten Future Japanese Rappers to watch.

In July of 2008, COMA-CHI announced that she had signed a record deal with the Knife Edge/Pony Canyon label, and made her major debut in 2009 with the album Red Naked. This was followed up by Beauty or the Beast? in 2010, an album which drew plaudits for COMA-CHI’s singing ability as well as her talent for spitting self-made rhymes. Lately, the queen of Japanese hip hop founded her own management company, Queen’s Room, a move she hopes will give her greater creative control to develop her sound.

COMA-CHI’s performance at CAMA ATK, 73a Mai Hac De will mark her Hanoi debut and the first chance for Hanoi hip hop fans to see the unique sounds of this talented, best-selling rap artist. The 50,000 VND tickets are available at CAMA ATK and free of admission for those who have a Vietnamese student ID.

COMA-CHI will also participate in Hoian – Japan Festival 2012.
