Who we are:Laurel Ace has been an integral part of MacArthur Blvd. since opening in Oakland in 1921. It has remained family-owned through the entire 96 year history, and is under new ownership as of April 2017, being taken over by Jeff and Michelle Leopold with great plans for a complete store renovation that will serve the community well into the store’s 2nd century! The Leopolds and business partner Troy Welch also own the almost-six-years oldMarin Ace in San Rafael, and SF’s 78-year-old variety store Standard 5&10 Ace in Laurel Village.
Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the Stock Clerk position is to maintain full shelves at the store, including stocking counters, unloading delivery trucks, moving merchandise to/from storage and store shelves, reordering, inventory control, and other related duties.
Experience in retail/stocking is preferred, but not required. Hardware experience is a bonus. Candidate must be a fast learner with a cheerful, positive attitude. They must work well under pressure and with fellow workers from diverse backgrounds. This is a great chance to work in a classic retail environment emphasizing great customer service. Candidates must be able to speak and write English proficiently.
Major Responsibilities
The major responsibilities for this position include:
- Keep store shelves/counters stocked
- Move merchandise to/from stock rooms and warehouses.
- Unload and load trucks in safe manner
- Reorder merchandise
- Maintain inventory counts
- Assist customers with their questions/requests
- Answer customer service phone calls
- Maintain all backroom tools and supplies as necessary
- Assist in maintaining store warehouses
- Store maintenance as required
Minimum Requirements
The minimum requirements for this position include the following:
- Education/Training: High School grad or current HS student. Possess a vast product knowledge of consumable products along with a willingness to learn.
- Experience in a retail environment preferred
- Skills/Knowledge: Strong organizational skills
- Knowledgeable of store policies and procedures
- Ability to communicate, relate well, and direct the work of others
- Ability to solve problems, work independently, and check accuracy
- Knowledge of retail computer systems, MS Word and Excel a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, high attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the business
Physical Requirements
The minimum physical requirements for this position include:
- Ability to stand for an extended period of time.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds frequently
- Wear a back belt as needed, proper lifting techniques used
