AP U.S. History Museum: Final Project

This is an independent project, each student will create their own exhibit to contribute to the APUSH museum. This will count as your final test grade for the semester and is worth 200 major points. The museum will be set up in the lecture hall on May 30 (A-blocks) and May 31 (B-blocks)

Directions: Choose below, ONE from the list of topics, and ONE from the list of project types. No more thanTWO of the same topic may be chosen from each class.

  3. Baseball as America’s national past time, history and development
  4. Walter Camp and American football
  5. Lewis and Clarke expedition, exploring the Wild West
  6. Growth of plantation economies and slave societies, pre-antebellum era
  7. Competitors for the West (1800s): miners, ranchers, homesteaders, and American Indians
  8. Impact of the New Deal in Mobile history
  9. Impact of changes in science, technology, and medicine in the 1950s
  10. The Two-party system: evolution from 1790 to present
  11. Henrietta Lacks, creation of modern vaccines
  12. Sacajawea, Shoshone interpreter for Lewis & Clarke
  13. Zora Neale Hurston, writer during Harlem Renaissance
  14. Madam C.J. Walker, businesswoman and activist
  15. Thurgood Marshall, civil rights attorney and Supreme Court Justice
  16. Colonel Young-Oak Kim, decorated WWII hero
  17. Tokyo Rose, WWII radio propagandist

PROJECT TYPES- All projects must be interactive, museum visitors should be able to do more than just view your project. Examples include: artifacts, interviews, games, infographics, videos, sounds, food, etc.)

  1. Trifold board- display pictures, excerpts, interactive information, must include typed 1-3 paragraph explanation of historical significance.
  2. Living Wax Figure-dress in time period attire and set up backdrop, prepare a short speech (2-3 minutes) as the person or event being depicted, and be able to give in-depth answers to questions about the person/event depicted. Must include a typed 1-3 paragraph paper that explains the person’s significance in history.
  3. Diorama- Create a 3-d depiction (miniature model) that conveys information pertaining to topic chosen, dimensions should be a minimum of 6”(W)x12”(L)x12”(H), parts should include labels and/or captions Must include a typed 1-3 paragraph paper that explains the significance in history.
