POSITION DESCRIPTION: SCHOOLS COORDINATOR (PT/ Temp)

LOCATION: Bala Sport, 4th Floor, Skypark 3, 14 Elliot Place, Glasgow G3 8EP

HOURS: Hours and days to be agreed but likely to be 2-3 days per week over a 10 week period.

REMUNERATION: £9/hour self-employed basis.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON BALA SPORT

Bala Sport is a co-operative (community benefit society) which designs and manufactures Fairtrade sports balls with the core aim providing a fair deal for sports ball workers in developing countries. The organization has 115 member/ investors with an 8 person board and run day to day by 2 joint managing directors. At this stage Bala offer a range of Fairtrade footballs and futsal balls and is about to launch rugby, net and volley balls, with footgolf balls currently in development. Production takes place in Pakistan.

MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB

·  Executing the production of a suite of Fairtrade sports balls educational resources for primary schools throughout the UK. This is a single person project.

·  Liaising with primary schools and education professionals to enable schools to more effectively teach the topic of Fairtrade relevant to sports ball manufacture through the production of relevant resources.

·  Gathering information on school’s use of Fairtrade and non-Fairtrade sports balls to enable Bala to develop its marketing strategy.

·  The resources produced by the schools coordinator will allow primary pupils to learn about the benefits to workers in developing countries making Fairtrade sports balls and in turn spread awareness throughout the schools community. Schools should become more likely to purchase which would result in more orders being placed and workers enjoying increased benefits from the increased Fairtrade Premium paid.

POSITION IN ORGANISATION

Reports To: Joint Managing Directors

Budget Responsibilities: The schools coordinator will ensure the allocated budget for the project is adhered to.

DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The development of educational resources for primary schools

·  Being responsible for the whole project, researching, writing and compiling materials through to completion

·  Surveying teachers and interpreting results

Liaison with primary schools and other educational professionals

·  Establish what resources schools require

·  Build a network of teachers, resource centre workers etc to act as advisors on resource requirements

·  Building relationships with school sport ambassadors and Active Schools Coordinators, PE teachers etc

·  Establishing which learning outcomes and areas to be covered

Production of suite of educational resources suitable for primary schools throughout UK

·  Compiling and writing required information and imagery, web links etc for use in the required resources in areas such as geography, numeracy, literacy, art & design, well being etc

·  Research into facts and stats around global sports ball production

·  Production of info-graphics

·  Production of lesson plans in various disciplines

·  Production of activities lists

·  Production of quiz sheets

·  Production of skills card series

Ensuring completion of the educational resources project

·  Production of print ready artwork

·  Liaising with designers and printers

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

·  Assisting the Joint Managing Directors as requested. For example:

o  Carrying out other duties such as social media promotion, answering the phone, admin associated with the education project

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Here are some of the key qualities, skills and experience required in this role.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
/ Clear understanding of the primary schools curriculum throughout the UK.
Ability to network and make contacts and engage with others to clearly gain information required to carry out the role.
Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills.
Ability to present written information in a structured and balanced way appropriate to the needs of the reader.
Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and ideally Adobe Illustrator/ Indesign/ Photoshop.
EXPERIENCE
/ Experience working in primary education.
Some graphic design experience is desired as is some educational resource production experience.
Conducting and interpreting surveys.
Producing info-graphics desired.
KNOWLEDGE
/ The successful candidate will ideally have a degree in primary school education.
Knowledge of the primary schools curriculum across the UK and understanding of what levels are required for the various age groups.
Knowledge and understanding of production of print ready artwork desirable.
Good knowledge and understanding of the Fairtrade system, including sports balls production.
Some knowledge of physical education especially football skills would be advantageous.
