Michigan 2018 Senior Citizen of the Year
April 5, 2018 Deadline
Michigan’s Aging and Adult Services Agency is calling onarea agencies on aging, county councils and commissions on aging, senior centers, senior volunteer programs,faith-based and health organizations, long-term care facilities, and all interested others to nominate an older adult for this year’s Senior Citizen of the Year.
This annual state tradition celebrates an older adult whose community has been enhanced through their active engagement, volunteerism, and selfless acts of service to others. They are often the unsung heroes our communities can’t live without…those special people communities can always count on to help in so many important ways!
SPECIAL RECOGNITION
And now for the exciting part! The award winner will:
Be honored and celebrated at Older Michiganians Day on May 16th at the State Capitol in Lansing before an audience of 1,000 older advocates
Be presented with a special tribute from Governor Rick Snyder
Receive an engraved, personalized plaque for display
Be recognized in a press release for local newspaper publication, and
Be highlighted in the Aging and Adult Services Agency’s annual report.
Eligible Nominees
- Areaged 60 orolder
- May be employed at the time of nomination, however, it is volunteer work that will be judged
- Are available to attend the Lansing celebration on May 16th
- Have been nominated by an organization, not an individual.
Nominations given ideal consideration by judges are those that showcase a nominee at his or her very best. In this spirit, you are strongly encouraged to paint an interesting picture of your nominee through descriptive explanations of their volunteer activities, background, and character, as well as their community impact. Nominee names and informationwill be kept confidential; nomination forms will not be returned. The winner will be chosen by April 30th.

- Describe the volunteer service(s) performed by the nominee that is/are worthy of celebration and recognition.
- Explain who has benefitted from or been impacted by the nominee’s volunteerism, and how. What community need has been addressed?
- Describe at least three personal qualities or characteristics that make this person special in their volunteer role.
- In 100 words or less, summarize why your nominee is deserving of this award.
- Optional:Provide any additional information that would be helpful in considering this nominee.
