PURPOSE OF THE POSTS
To recommend, plan and deliver integrated marketing communications strategies that assists Age UK Notts to achieve its charitable objectives.
To plan, develop, implement and measure Age UK Nott’s marketing, communications and public relations activities, both external and internal, delivering measurable projects and campaigns on time, within budget and to a consistently high quality.
As part of an overall organisational PR strategy, assist teams across the charity to devise their own strategies and campaigns to support their work in order to generate customer enquiries.
To ensure collateral is produced to support sales, marketing, brand development, communications and public relations activities.
To ensure the Brand is used appropriately across the charity.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Public Relations
ü To work collaboratively with a diverse staff team to create and manage cross-organisational, integrated communication and PR strategies.
ü To monitor external media and identify opportunities to respond to these to promote the interests of older people and the charity.
ü To develop effective relationships with the media, ensuring regular media releases are issued to promote the work of the charity.
ü To manage all social media channels used by the charity.
ü To ensure copy is sourced for the quarterly magazine via a joint Notts and Derbyshire editorial group. To liaise with the outsourced company who will produce the magazine, ensuring adherence to brand guidelines and quality standards. To ensure the magazine is effectively distributed, once produced.
ü To produce copy for the charity’s website and ensure that brand guidance is adhered to. To liaise with IT to ensure the website is maintained to a high standard.
ü To ensure Age UK Notts is represented at relevant events, as required.
Marketing Materials
ü To assist members of staff to produce marketing materials using the Age UK templates.
ü To ensure marketing materials are effective and adhere to brand guidelines.
ü To co-ordinate the production of marketing materials such as leaflets, posters, reports, etc, ensuring they are effective and adhere to brand guidelines.
ü To conduct or outsource filming, photography and interviews to promote the work of the charity.
ü To seek to secure case studies as examples of the charity’s impact on the lives of older people.
ü To position Age UK Notts as the leading charity for older people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
Organisation/best practice
ü To strive for excellence across your work for Age UK Notts.
ü To ensure your knowledge of the work of Age UK Notts is kept up to date and relevant by networking, researching and reading.
ü To freely share knowledge, insight, best practice and ideas relevant to the promotion and marketing of the charity.
ü To provide writing and editing support for outbound client communication including promotional materials, reports, blogs, emails and newsletters to ensure marketing effectiveness and adherence to brand guidelines.
ü To measure the effectiveness of all marketing and communications campaigns against return on investment and specific key performance indicators.
Charity Responsibilities - Standard Clauses
Your Needs
· You will keep under review your own developmental needs, keep yourself informed of current issues and be alert to the Age UK Notts training programmes and policies and attend all supervision meetings advised by your line manager. It is your responsibility along with your line manager to identify training and development needs and to inform your line manager of these.

· You will exercise proper care in handling, operating and safeguarding any equipment or appliance provided, used or issued by Age UK Notts or provided by a third party for individual or collective use in the performance of your duties.

· You will raise any concerns regarding safeguarding and report all allegations of abuse in line with the Age UK Notts Safeguarding policy.
Customer Care
· You will promote and deliver services in a way which is sensitive and responsive to those receiving such services and be aware of and implement the Age UK Notts customer care policies and service level agreement requirements (if applicable).
Professional Integrity
· You will maintain at all times the professional integrity of the Charity and represent its main interests in any dealings with other bodies, groups and individuals.
Quality Assurance
· You will uphold and proactively contribute to the Age UK Notts Quality and Environmental Standards frameworks including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001and the Age UK Organisational Quality Standard.
Other
· participate in, and promote fundraising & income generation
· promote all Age UK Notts services and trading products
· You will attend staff meetings, the annual staff conference and other meetings as requested in order to keep up to date with information within the Charity
· You will provide for your line manager, weekly diary sheets and any other reports or information as required.
· You will carry out any other specified tasks that may be reasonably required by the relevant Manager, with the proviso that any changes of a permanent nature will be included in the job description.

Essential Requirements
1. Educated to degree level or seeking a placement year as part of a sandwich course (preferably in Sociology, English, business, media studies, marketing, PR, communications studies, journalism or an equivalent specialism).
2. Ability to write professional web and marketing copy, with the ability to produce compelling and optimised copy while maintaining brand messaging, persuasiveness and readability.
3. Working knowledge of major social media channels including Facebook and Twitter.
4. Competent using Microsoft Office software.
5. Knowledge and skills in the area of Graphic Design (e.g. typography, layout & image manipulation). Ability to produce print-ready artwork for promotional materials such as leaflets, posters, adverts and fliers. Training will be provided to enable the successful candidate to use our desktop publishing software, InDesign, if required.
6. Proven listening, negotiating and influencing skills.
7. Creative thinker.
8. Excellent communications skills, with a solid knowledge of English grammar and the ability to present ideas in a clear and concise way, both verbally and in writing.
9. Analytical, with the ability to interpret information, news, data and research quickly – and distil the most important/relevant information to inform new content and creative ideas.
10. Proactive and highly organised, with strong time management and planning skills, meticulous attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
11. Ability to meet deadlines and remain calm under pressure.

Salary: Minimum wage
Start Date: Late January 2016
Hours of Work: Full-time, 37 hours per week. Monday to Thursday 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and 9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Friday (with 30 minutes for lunch which is unpaid). Age UK Notts operates a scheme of flexible working hours.
Holidays: 24 working days. Employees are granted 8 Public Holidays. One additional day’s leave is added to the annual leave entitlement for each year of service up to a maximum of 8 additional days.
Mileage
Allowance: Currently 45p per mile.
Pension: The Charity will contribute 6% of basic salary into our NEST pension scheme after 3 months service with a phased employee contribution rising to a maximum of 1.6% from 1st April 2018 (in line with auto-enrolment rules).

The intern will work closely with our Chief Executive, as well as our service managers across the charity, to support them and ensure co-ordination of marketing and communications.
The intern will also have access to support from the national Age UK charity which has specialist digital, PR, marketing and communications teams.
